\nparty-line vote of Senate Democrats led by Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Le\u00f3n.<\/i>

\nThe slate of proposals attacking California gun owners included four Assembly bills that were \u201cgutted and
\namended\u201d in the Senate just two weeks earlier in an effort by Democrats to avoid a full legislative vetting process
\nand public scrutiny.<\/i>

\nOn the floor, debate about the need for the bills centered on a political turf war between Lt. Governor Gavin
\nNewsom, sponsor of a gun control ballot initiative opposed by my California legislators, and de Le\u00f3n, who,
\nironically, views the ballot initiative process as a \u201clast resort\u201d rather than a way to short-cut the legislative cycle.
\n\u201cIt is nothing short of unconscionable that millions of law-abiding Californians are being used as chess pieces in a
\ntwisted political game to see who can race to the bottom first,\u201d said Craig DeLuz, legislative advocate for the gun
\nrights group Firearms Policy Coalition.<\/i>

\nSenator de Leon hopes that by fast-tracking gun control through the legislature, he can take the wind out
\nNewsom\u2019s \u201cSafety for All\u201d initiative\u2019s sails\u2014and his 2018 campaign to be the Golden State\u2019s next governor.
\n\u201cThe political class needs to know that law-abiding gun owners are not second-class citizens and the Second
\nAmendment does not protect a second-class right,\u201d noted DeLuz. \u201cEven the liberal Ninth Circuit Court of
\nAppeals acknowledges that.\u201d<\/i>

- \u2022 SB 1006 (Wolk): University of California taxpayer funding for gun control research.<\/i><\/li>\n
- \u2022 SB 1235 (Deleon): Restrictions on ammunition purchases, creates a DOJ database of ammunition owners.<\/i><\/li>\n
- \u2022 SB 1407 (Deleon): Retroactively requires serial numbers be placed on firearms dating back over 50 years.<\/i><\/li>\n
- \u2022 SB 1446: Confiscation of lawfully acquired, standard capacity magazines that can hold over 10 rounds.<\/i><\/li>\n
- \u2022 AB 156 (McCarty): Formerly dealt with global warming, but is now the same as SB 1235.<\/i><\/li>\n
- \u2022 AB 857 (Cooper): Formerly addressed greenhouse gasses, but is now the same as SB 1407.<\/i><\/li>\n
