My father and the fathers of many of my school mates had served in WWII. The war was not some distant memory.<\/p>\n<p>I came across Gen. Eisenhower&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/education\/lessons\/d-day-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handwritten speech<\/a> to be used if the Normandy invasion failed. What struck me about it is how he was willing to take the blame if the invasion failed.
