Chris Christie (R-NJ) needs to veto has grown again. In addition to the magazine ban bill this is sitting on his desk, there is now a bill that totally bans ivory or &#8220;ivory products&#8221;. This ban extends to 10,000 year old ivory from mammoth tusks.<\/p>\n<p>Ivory products are more than carved elephant tusks. They would include things like the keys on older Steinway concert pianos, 150-year old whale scrimshaw, slabs and handles from knives, old billiard balls, and the grips on George Patton&#8217;s revolvers. Banning the transfer of ivory or ivory products at the state level does nothing to stop elephant poaching in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Knife Rights has issued a strongly worded alert on this bill. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njleg.state.nj.us\/2014\/Bills\/A3500\/3128_I1.HTM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reading through the bill<\/a> myself, I agree that it is all encompassing and permits no real exceptions. It makes it<br \/>\n                                    illegal to to import, sell,<br \/>\n                                    offer for sale, purchase,<br \/>\n                                    barter or <strong>possess with<br \/>\n                                    intent to sell (a<br \/>\n                                    intentionally vague term of<br \/>\n                                    law subject to abusive<br \/>\n                                    interpretation that could<br \/>\n                                    lead to knife confiscations<br \/>\n                                    and arrests)<\/strong> any<br \/>\n                                    ivory or ivory product with no<br \/>\n                                    exceptions for antique or<br \/>\n                                    heretofore legal ivory<br \/>\n                                    imported decades ago prior to<br \/>\n                                    the existing 24-year-old U.S.<br \/>\n                                    ban on ivory imports.<\/p>\n<p>This ban would<br \/>\n                                    irreparably harm owners of<br \/>\n                                    ivory-handled and fossil<br \/>\n                                    ivory-handled knives,<br \/>\n                                    antiques, musical instruments<br \/>\n                                    and any items containing ivory<br \/>\n                                    legally imported into this<br \/>\n                                    country decades ago by<br \/>\n                                    stripping their value &#8211; a<br \/>\n                                    taking of millions of dollars<br \/>\n                                    from law-abiding New<br \/>\n                                    Jerseyans.
