Roots North Carolina released an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grnc.org\/defend-your-rights\/recent-grnc-alerts\/1036-house-of-representatives-to-vote-on-gun-control\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alert <\/a>concerning votes on HR 8 and HR 1112 which may be coming this week. The first mandates universal background checks for all purchases and transfers while the second changes the procedure for a &#8220;hold&#8221; on NICS checks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shootingwire.com\/features\/236fefb9-2811-4cc3-a8f2-c05b06727f05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Gresham has written about this combination and the danger it poses.<\/a> While a Democrat president might not use emergency powers to declare an emergency over &#8220;gun violence&#8221; (sic), it has been threatened by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. When you add the combination of these two bills to a declared emergency, you could have a perfect storm for the gun culture. In brief, <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/50812580:Wkj-a9IN_:m:1:345463350:78A67F978623B08594864949BBDA7079:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H.R. 8<\/a> (<em>Bipartisan Background Checks Act of<br \/>\n2019<\/em>) makes private firearms transfers a crime, while <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/50812581:Wkj-a9IN_:m:1:345463350:78A67F978623B08594864949BBDA7079:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H.R. 1112<\/a> (<em>Enhanced Background Checks Act of<br \/>\n2019<\/em>) establishes a nationwide waiting period for gun purchases. <\/p>\n<p>                                             Although bills such as<br \/>\nthese seem like \u201cDemocrat\u201d bills that would never make it through the<br \/>\nRepublican-held Senate, don\u2019t be so sure. As it stands, these bills are<br \/>\nlabeled \u201cbi-partisan\u201d because some less reliable Republican<br \/>\nlawmakers (read: RINOs), have co-sponsored them. This allows for the<br \/>\nfollowing scenario: <\/span><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: &quot;calibri&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , &quot;arial&quot; , sans-serif;\">If these bills have bi-partisan support, they\u2019ll likely pass the <u><strong>House<\/strong><\/u><br \/>\n easily, even<br \/>\nif a few conservative Democrats vote against them. As it stands, no less<br \/>\n than five Republicans have signed on to H.R. 8. So far, H.R. 1112 has<br \/>\nonly<br \/>\none Republican co-sponsor, but it can still be labeled bi-partisan, and<br \/>\nis quite likely to pass the House. Other than the co-sponsors, it\u2019s<br \/>\nanyone\u2019s guess how many other unreliable Republicans will vote for one<br \/>\nor both of these bills. <br \/> <br \/>\n                 <\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: &quot;calibri&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , &quot;arial&quot; , sans-serif;\">If there are Republicans in the House<br \/>\nwho sign on to these oppressive gun control laws, who\u2019s to say that certain \u201cmoderate\u201d Republicans in the<br \/>\n<u><strong>Senate<\/strong><\/u> won\u2019t do the same? <br \/>                                                             <\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: &quot;calibri&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , &quot;arial&quot; , sans-serif;\">While it\u2019s true that we have a Republican<br \/>\n<u><strong>executive<\/strong><\/u>, it\u2019s also true that President Trump has dithered on questions of gun control. He has <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/50812582:Wkj-a9IN_:m:1:345463350:78A67F978623B08594864949BBDA7079:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supported so-called \u201cred flag\u201d laws<\/a>,<br \/>\nwhich arbitrarily deny due process and strip citizens of their Second<br \/>\nAmendment rights by bureaucratic whim.
