What we call &#8220;junkin'&#8221; is a cheap way to spend a Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saysuncle.com\/2013\/09\/11\/dunno-those-kind-of-scare-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a post by SayUncle<\/a> about safety razors and having seen the prices for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/FAT-BOY-E4-GILLETTE-ADJUSTABLE-RAZOR-\/141068377651?hash=item20d8549e33\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gillette Fat Boys <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/VINTAGE-SCHICK-KRONA-BLACK-HANDLE-SAFETY-RAZOR-WITH-PLASTIC-CASE-\/251336706820?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&amp;hash=item3a84d5cb04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Schick Kronas<\/a> on EBay, I thought I might find something at one of the local antique malls like the one below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/safety-razor-768x1024.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/safety-razor-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nI had no such luck. I did see a handful of straight razors but the thought of trying to correctly use one of those to shave is too scary for me.<\/p>\n<p>However, the trip was not made in vain. The first thing that caught my eye was the bright red Prius below. Unlike the usual Prius seen in Asheville with its &#8220;Another Mama for Obama&#8221; bumpersticker, this one had of all things a NRA sticker on the front door window!<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/nra-prius.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"298\" src=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/nra-prius.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/>&nbsp;<\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nAn older gentleman (but not the owner of the Prius) sitting near the door of the mall saw me taking the picture and said he was a NRA member. He said he&#8217;d joined a couple of years ago and now was being audited by the IRS. While I would hope the story is somewhat apocryphal, one never knows nowadays given the way the IRS under the Obama Administration seems to be targeting groups and people opposed to Obama.<\/p>\n<p>The second thing that caught my eye was a nice fountain pen in a variegated green. I knew it was a Sheaffer the moment I saw the white dot on the cap. I ended up getting it for $20. When I got home I did some Internet sleuthing and found out it was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pendemonium.com\/images\/advertisments\/shtp_220.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheaffer Triumph Lifetime<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/penhero.com\/PenGallery\/Sheaffer\/SheafferVacuumFilGuide.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vacu-fil<\/a> in marine green striated made between 1942 and 1949. It is in excellent shape but I still need to test to see whether it will hold ink. The band and the clip show some brassing but I can live with that given the great shape the nib is in.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Sheaffer-Triumph-002A.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Sheaffer-Triumph-002A.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nIt was all in all a fun day. As to that safety razor, I may end up<a href=\"http:\/\/www.saysuncle.com\/2013\/09\/15\/razor-blogging-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> doing what SayUncle did<\/a> and just buying a new Merkur from Amazon.
