As a 501(c)(4) organization, they are allowed to lobby the General Assembly and take part in political campaigns so long as their &#8220;primary activity is the promotion of social welfare&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/irm\/part7\/irm_07-025-004.html#d0e332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the IRS<\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncsba.org\/clientuploads\/DocumentsPDF\/Advocacy\/NCSBAC%20Memo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCSBAC<\/a> is the political action arm of the North Carolina School Boards Association and receives its funding through property taxes allocated to the local school boards.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that one of their primary legislative objectives is the repeal of that part of NC GS 14-269.2 which allows limited campus carry for employees who live on campus and allows concealed carry holders to store a firearm in their locked vehicles while on school property.<\/p>\n<p>Grass Roots North Carolina is taking issue with tax money being used to lobby against our gun rights. They released an alert yesterday about it and ask that people contact their local county commissions and school boards to make their displeasure known.<\/p>\n<p>From GRNC:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\">\n<table border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\" cellspacing=\"0\" id=\"content_LETTER.BLOCK5\" style=\"display: table; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100%px;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<td align=\"center\" bgcolor=\"#0000cc\" colspan=\"1\" rowspan=\"1\" style=\"background-color: #0000cc; color: white; font-family: 'Arial Black','Avant Garde'; font-size: 11pt; text-align: center;\" width=\"99%\">\n<div>\n<h3>\n<span face=\"Arial Black, Avant Garde\" style=\"font-family: 'Arial Black','Avant Garde';\"><span style=\"color: white;\">NC School Boards Assoc Uses YOUR MONEY To Attack Gun Rights<\/span><br \/> <br \/>\n              <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" colspan=\"1\" rowspan=\"1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\">\n<em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Creates &#8220;North Carolina School Board\u2019s Action Center\u201d, a new 501(c)(4) organization designed to divert Education<br \/>\nfunds to promote personal anti-gun agenda\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\"><\/p>\n<p>Since Governor Pat McCrory signed HB 937 into law, the <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/14922308:17055539269:m:1:345463350:CF9EDDD40F68AD89AB2B523BEC3A21BC:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Carolina School Board Association<\/a><br \/>\n has been<br \/>\ntouting its newly formed North Carolina School Board\u2019s Action Center<br \/>\n(NCSBAC), a new 501(c)(4) organization designed to \u201cstrengthen local<br \/>\nschool board advocacy efforts\u201d.&nbsp; The group receives its funding from<br \/>\nindividual county school boards through the collection of property<br \/>\ntaxes.&nbsp; Among their stated primary objectives is to advocate for the<br \/>\nrepeal of NCGS 14-269.2, which recently granted law-abiding North<br \/>\nCarolinian\u2019s with limited campus carry provisions.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right,<br \/>\nthe NCSBAC is devising a scheme to misappropriate tax dollars<br \/>\ncollected for education purposes to fund their anti-gun agenda!&nbsp; The<br \/>\nbrainchild of Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board Vice-Chairman<br \/>\n<u><strong>Tim Morgan<\/strong><\/u> and political director <u><strong>Leanne Winner<\/strong><\/u>,<br \/>\n who has been crisscrossing the state spewing her<br \/>\npropaganda during district-wide legislative reviews, has made the<br \/>\norganization\u2019s intentions clear:&nbsp; to attack the limited Campus Carry<br \/>\nprovisions which go into effect on October 1st. <\/p>\n<p>Specifically,<br \/>\nshe has advised local school board members that \u201cNCGS 14.269.2<br \/>\nis a safety concern for public schools\u201d.&nbsp; She repeatedly and mockingly<br \/>\nstates that the reason for allowing concealed carry permit holders<br \/>\nto retain their guns in a locked car was to provide them with the<br \/>\nopportunity to &#8220;save the day&#8221; in the event of a school<br \/>\nshooting.&nbsp;&nbsp; But, in her opinion, the real effect of the legislation was<br \/>\nto create a situation where adults angry over the outcome of a high<br \/>\nschool football game could settle their disputes by \u201cshooting it out in<br \/>\nthe parking lots&#8221;.&nbsp; Winner goes on to say that NCSBA will use<br \/>\ntheir 501(c)(4) organization to repeal this provision of&nbsp; NC GS<br \/>\n14-269.2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enough is enough!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the<br \/>\ncontinued economic downward turn is forcing teacher layoffs and reduced<br \/>\nfunding to schools across the state, the notion that what little funds<br \/>\nremain<br \/>\nbe spent on pressing a personal political agenda becomes all the more<br \/>\nincredulous. Our tax dollars can be utilized in a multitude of more<br \/>\nefficient<br \/>\nways to raise and maintain the educational standards of our children<br \/>\nthan to have them diverted into such pet projects filled with outright<br \/>\nanti-gun<br \/>\npropaganda.<\/p>\n<p>You <u><em><strong>CAN<\/strong><\/em><\/u> make a<br \/>\ndifference!
