It not only unleashed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pagunblog.com\/2013\/09\/19\/starbucks-reaction-round-up\/http:\/\/www.pagunblog.com\/2013\/09\/19\/starbucks-reaction-round-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tsunami of criticism<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com\/2013\/09\/no-dogs-or-irish.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gun owners<\/a> but it caused a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pagunblog.com\/2013\/09\/19\/what-can-starbucks-teach-us-as-a-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number of<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grantcunningham.com\/blog_files\/the-starbucks-debacle.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introspective posts<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunnuts.net\/2013\/09\/18\/starbucks-and-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gun bloggers<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/article\/reaction-to-starbucks-gun-control-groups-demand-nothing-less-than-total-ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regarding open<\/a> carry. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunnuts.net\/2013\/09\/18\/open-carry-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The tactics<\/a> of some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunnuts.net\/2013\/09\/19\/spleen-ventilation-volume-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open carry activists<\/a> were <a href=\"http:\/\/vuurwapenblog.com\/2013\/09\/20\/civilians-who-carry-long-guns-in-public-should-be-tarred-and-feathered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">especially subject to criticism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;All of this controversy led to questions about Starbucks&#8217;s competitors and their policies. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/gun-policies-at-mcdonalds-and-dunkin-2013-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider, a business website,<\/a> reached out to both McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts to find out their policies.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, they will abide by the local and state laws where their stores are located.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Here&#8217;s a statement from McDonald&#8217;s spokeswoman Lisa McComb:<\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<i>\u201cWe recognize that there is a lot of emotion and passion surrounding the issue of firearms and open carry weapons laws. <\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<i>While we respect the differing views of all our customers, McDonald\u2019s company-owned restaurants follow local, state and federal laws as it relates to open carry weapons in our restaurants. <\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<i>For franchisee-owned restaurants, operational decisions regarding open carry weapon laws are made by the independent franchisee.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<i>That said, as with all aspects of operating a McDonald\u2019s restaurant, we expect our franchisees and their crew to follow local, state and federal laws.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i><br \/>\nAnd Dunkin&#8217; Donuts spokeswoman Michelle King: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n&#8220;Dunkin\u2019 Donuts and Baskin-Robbins restaurants are owned and operated by individual franchisees who are required to follow all federal, state and local laws with regard to firearms.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While North Carolina has had open carry since 1921, I would hope that open carry activists would use some discretion. It is one thing to have a revolver or pistol on your hip; it is entirely another thing to carry an AR or shotgun on a sling.
