We all know that gun sales have been surging throughout the year. However, the AP would have you believe sales in Colorado and Connecticut, scenes of horrible tragedies, were off.<\/p>\n<p>From the AP story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courierpress.com\/news\/2013\/jan\/08\/fewer-excited-gun-buyers-colorado-and-connecticut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Fewer excited gun-buyers in Colorado and Connecticut&#8221;<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\">\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>The government&#8217;s figures suggested far less interest in purchasing guns<br \/>\nlate in the year in Connecticut and Colorado, where background checks<br \/>\nalso increased but not nearly as much as most other states &#8230; Only New Jersey and Maryland showed smaller increases than<br \/>\nColorado in December from one month earlier.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sales must really be impacted there, right?<\/p>\n<p>Not exactly as Jim notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Sounds reasonable, right? After all, these states are both reeling from the havoc caused there by crazies. <\/p>\n<p>Not necessarily. While the story is accurate that the biggest surges in<br \/>\nbackground checks for gun purchases were in the South and West, the<br \/>\nnumbers weren&#8217;t exactly insignificant in either Connecticut or Colorado.<br \/>\n The increases in NICS checks, and as may be implied, gun sales, in<br \/>\nthose states were only sixty five and sixty-four percent,<br \/>\nrespectively. Colorado&#8217;s checks frose from 35,009 in October to 53,453<br \/>\nin December.
