It seems officials in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Animal_farm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comrade Napolean&#8217;s<\/a>, err, I mean <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2012\/12\/26\/meet-the-press-david-gregory-dc-police-atf-gun-magazine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Obama&#8217;s ATF contacted the Metro PD on behalf of NBC<\/a> and were told Gregory could &#8220;display&#8221; the magazine.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Well-placed law enforcement sources tell TMZ &#8230; a staffer from &#8220;Meet<br \/>\nthe Press&#8221; called ATF before the show aired to inquire about the<br \/>\nlegality of David holding the empty magazine during a segment on gun<br \/>\ncontrol.&nbsp; We&#8217;re told the ATF person contacted the D.C. police to find<br \/>\nout if the District of Columbia &#8212; the place where the show is broadcast<br \/>\n &#8212; had a law prohibiting such a display.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Our sources say the<br \/>\nD.C. police official informed ATF David could legally show the magazine,<br \/>\n provided it was empty. &nbsp;An ATF official then called the staffer from<br \/>\n&#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; to inform them they could use the magazine.<\/i><\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: white; border: medium none; color: black; overflow: hidden; text-align: left; text-decoration: none;\">\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>From a reader comment that <a href=\"http:\/\/pjmedia.com\/instapundit\/160394\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glenn Reynolds posted on Instapundit<\/a> along with his response:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Reader Stephen Johnson emails:  \u201cATF approval simply makes no sense.<br \/>\nThe ATF has no jurisdiction over DC gun laws.  And if, in fact, NBC news<br \/>\n called the ATF to ask \u2018permission\u2019 this just reinforces how stupid they<br \/>\n are about gun laws and jurisdiction.  This story smells\u2026. bad.\u201d  Hmm.<br \/>\nIf D.C. were a state I\u2019d be sure this was correct.
