Now, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grnc.org\/index.php\/grnc-alerts-archive\/378-grnc-alert-12-21-12-winston-salem-demands-repeal-of-hb-650-and-expansion-of-qgun-free-zonesq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this alert from Grass Roots North Carolina<\/a>, they are seeking to have the law repealed in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Demands Repeal of HB 650 Expanded Carry in Parks&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Insensitively exploiting the recent evil mass-homicide within a \u201cGun-Free\u201d Connecticut school, the Winston-Salem City Council announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalnow.com\/news\/local\/article_04de4d34-48bf-11e2-a5d6-0019bb30f31a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a list of requested legislation<\/a> they want to see from this year\u2019s NC General Assembly. Among these demands is repeal of last year\u2019s expanded park carry that was passed as HB 650.<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly, the Council responds to murder in a \u201cGun-Free Zone\u201d by demanding expansion of their dangerous reach within North Carolina municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines was quoted as saying park carry is \u201ca mixed bag, and it\u2019s confusing. The legislature pre-empted local governments\u2019 authority to control local parks. I think they should leave that up to us.\u201d Compliance with this law is as easy as permitting law-abiding citizens to carry everywhere. Left up to the Mayor, we would be unable to defend our families in parks. This type of endangerment can no longer be tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>Council Member Derwin Montgomery claims, \u201clocal governments have a right to regulate the time and place (arms are carried)\u201d. I am also disappointed that you are demanding that HB 650, last year\u2019s expanded park carry bill, be rescinded. This important law decreases the area in which citizens are disarmed in our state.
