This includes contributions of $5,000 each from the Second Amendment Foundation and the CalGuns Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>I have made a contribution and would urge you to consider doing so as well.&nbsp; Getting this message out to what is not a traditional Second Amendment audience is important.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"480\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/assaulted\/assaulted\/widget\/video.html\" width=\"640\"> <\/iframe>,<\/p>\n<p>\nThe producers have posted this description of the film which they intend to distribute through Southern Oregon Public TV.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i><b>Assaulted &#8211; The Fight To Bear Arms<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>When the subject of<br \/>\nCalifornia\u2019s gun control laws are discussed, rarely are they associated<br \/>\nwith the civil rights movement and the quest for equal rights for<br \/>\nall.&nbsp;This film will compare the historical aspects of gun control<br \/>\ntargeting the indigenous tribes of North America and emancipated slaves<br \/>\nthrough the Jim Crow era to today\u2019s laws that favor elitists and denies<br \/>\nthe rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the most vulnerable in our<br \/>\n society.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The film takes a critical look at the original intent<br \/>\nof the current California guns laws in contrast with crime and murder<br \/>\nstatistics before and since their implementation; and compares these<br \/>\nlaws to those of the adjacent states. Story threads also look at the<br \/>\nmyriad of concealed carry permitting processes across the state to<br \/>\nillustrate that not all residents are treated equal.<br \/>\n<\/i><i><b><\/p>\n<p>A Few Threads of the Film<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The threads below will be woven with current events in California and<br \/>\n Nationally that are creating demands for new assault weapons<br \/>\nlegislation and ammunition sales restrictions. Are these law in the best<br \/>\n interest of public safety or infringement of our civil rights?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>We will seek out interviews with leading constitutional historians,<br \/>\nanti-violence leaders, gun rights activists, law makers and gun owners<br \/>\nto create a film that will start a meaningful conversation, not add to<br \/>\nrhetoric.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Battle of Athens<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>When the 2nd Amendment is discussed, the concept of the citizens\u2019<br \/>\nrights to defend themselves against a corrupt or tyrannical government<br \/>\nis sure to be included. The idea of the people rising up against the<br \/>\ngovernment here in the USA seems farfetched. Just the stuff of a<br \/>\nHollywood film, but it has happened.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In 1946, returning GIs from WWII faced off with a corrupt county<br \/>\nsheriff and his cronies in McMinn County, Tennessee. The film will look<br \/>\nat the causes of the conflict, and how the soldiers and the citizens<br \/>\nrestored the rule of law to their county by the applied use of the 2nd<br \/>\nAmendment.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Deacons for Defense<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The civil rights movement of the 1960\u2019s is always associated with the<br \/>\n nonviolent actions of Martin Luther King, Jr. and civil rights workers<br \/>\nthat spread out across the South. Rarely mentioned are the \u201cDeacons for<br \/>\nDefense\u201d and how a handful of armed black men protected the civil rights<br \/>\n workers, broke the stranglehold of the Ku Klux Klan in Louisiana and<br \/>\nsecured civil rights for all citizens in the South.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Guns for the White Man only<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Gun laws from the beginning of the United States of America have<br \/>\nalways favored the wealthy white man. The first laws written barred<br \/>\nNative Americans and Blacks (freed or enslaved) from possessing firearms<br \/>\n and continued through the Jim Crow era.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>World War II saw gun confiscations precede forced interment of<br \/>\nJapanese-American citizens just because of the fear of war empowered the<br \/>\n white man to do so. The fact that no German-Americans or<br \/>\nItalian-Americans had their firearms taken just supports that gun laws<br \/>\nhave been written for the white majority.<\/p>\n<p>The California Gun<br \/>\nControl Act of 1968 has been said to be a knee-jerk reaction to the<br \/>\nBlack Panther\u2019s use of loaded rifles in peaceful protest to bring<br \/>\nattention to white bigotry in the Oakland police department and abuses<br \/>\nby its white police officers against black citizens.
