One of the amendments to be voted on deals with making hunting and fishing constitutional rights under the NC Constitution. That&#8217;s nice but the reality is that Republicans in the State Senate think such an amendment will placate gun owners despite their sitting on a bill authorizing permitless concealed carry.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican majority still think backing hunting is supporting the Second Amendment and gun rights. That might have been fine when all you had was Gun Culture v. 1.0 but we have moved to Gun Culture v. 2.0 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Grass Roots North Carolina recognizes this and they also recognize that this special session is an opportunity for the Republicans to actually do something with regard to gun rights.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\">\n<table align=\"center\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\" cellspacing=\"0\" id=\"content_LETTER.BLOCK5\" style=\"margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100%px;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr align=\"center\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<td align=\"center\" bgcolor=\"#0000cc\" colspan=\"1\" rowspan=\"1\" style=\"background-color: #0000cc; color: white; font-family: &quot;Arial Black&quot;, &quot;Avant Garde&quot;; font-size: 11pt;\" width=\"99%\">\n<h3>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\">GOP SENATORS CAN<br \/>                                                         STILL EARN YOUR<br \/>\nVOTE<\/span><\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial Black;\"><br \/> <br \/>\n                               <\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3>\n<span face=\"Arial Black, Avant\nGarde\">                                                                     <\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" colspan=\"1\" rowspan=\"1\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\">Thus far, the NC Senate has made 2018 a dud for gun-rights<br \/>\nvoters, but there is an opportunity for redemption, and just in time for<br \/>\n the<br \/>\nelection\u2026 <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p>                                          For better or worse, a judge<br \/>\nhas<br \/>\neffectively forced the NC Senate to convene a special session in order<br \/>\nto fine-tune the language in some of this November\u2019s proposed<br \/>\namendments.&nbsp; This is great news for both gun owners and GOP senators. <\/p>\n<p>                                                  <span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Republicans Have Miscalculated<\/strong><\/span><br \/> <br \/>\n                                                During this year\u2019s regular session, NC Senate President Pro Tempore <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/48922697:W6IgjMGNT:m:1:345464502:ABC209B791F41A76E96EF75ABAEB5121:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Phil Berger<\/strong><\/a>, Rules Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/48922698:W6IgjMGNT:m:1:345464502:ABC209B791F41A76E96EF75ABAEB5121:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Bill Rabon<\/strong><\/a>, and other Senate<br \/>\nRepublicans have completely ignored gun owners. Had they simply passed <a href=\"http:\/\/paracom.paramountcommunication.com\/ct\/48922699:W6IgjMGNT:m:1:345464502:ABC209B791F41A76E96EF75ABAEB5121:r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HB-746<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n (permitless concealed<br \/>\ncarry), they would have lived up to their recurring campaign rhetoric,<br \/>\nas well as their party\u2019s platform. Instead, they chose to punt, perhaps<br \/>\nto avoid an issue they perceived to be controversial. Unfortunately,<br \/>\nthat\u2019s not courageous and that\u2019s certainly not leadership.<br \/>\n<u><strong>Disregarding pro-gun voters, who are basically the Republican<br \/>\n base, is ill advised preceding a mid-term election where majorities are<br \/>\n up<br \/>\nfor grabs, and Republicans need every vote they can scrounge. With that<br \/>\nin mind, perhaps it\u2019s fair to say that Senate leaders have<br \/>\nmiscalculated<\/strong><\/u>. <\/p>\n<p>   <strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Good News for Senate Republicans<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>       By a serendipitous twist, NC senators now have a chance to redeem<br \/>\n themselves in the eyes of their base, and just in the nick of time.<br \/>\n<u><strong>With a special session convening this coming week, there is<br \/>\nno reason GOP leaders can\u2019t give HB-746 a hearing, and make sure it<br \/>\ncomes<br \/>\nto the floor for an up or down vote<\/strong><\/u>. This simple action would please the grass roots voter, while ensuring more freedom and a greater<br \/>\nlevel of safety for all North Carolina citizens. <\/p>\n<p>                        <span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Good News for Gun Voters <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>                 The good news for gun owners is that the NC Senate may<br \/>\nactually use this opportunity to show you, the gun-rights voter, that<br \/>\nthey<br \/>\nhaven\u2019t forgotten you. They may actually do the right thing, even if<br \/>\nit\u2019s only to court your vote in November. A substantive and long-overdue show of support for<br \/>\ngun rights, by passing HB-746 during this special session, would go a<br \/>\nlong way<br \/>\nto shrink the chasm GOP senators have opened between themselves and<br \/>\ntheir voting base. More importantly, passing HB-746 would make North<br \/>\nCarolina both<br \/>\nsafer and freer for all of its law-abiding citizens. <\/p>\n<p>                            I insist that you do the right thing during<br \/>\nthis special session.
