Kerner<\/strong><\/a>. South Carolinians have been fighting to get open carry as a constitutional right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It looks like thanks to the SC State Senate that their fight will continue on even longer. An amendment to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/sess124_2021-2022\/bills\/3094.htm\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>bill <\/strong><\/a>that would allow open carry with a permit was defeated yesterday 25-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gun-politics-government-and-politics-a13db2c8f8f264beae1f3f42015668cf\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>From the AP<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Several Republican leaders in the Senate weren\u2019t ready to go as far as open carry without a permit.<\/p><p>\u201cI think training and background checks are important,\u201d said Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey, a Republican from Edgefield.<\/p><p>Senators expected to debate well into Wednesday night. Once the day is finished, there are four more days left in the General Assembly\u2019s session.<\/p><p>Gun rights groups have made open carry a priority for years and put extra pressure on senators after Republicans won an extra three seats in the 2020 elections.<\/p><p>Opponents of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/sess124_2021-2022\/bills\/3094.htm\" target=\"_blank\">open carry bill<\/a> include a number of current law enforcement leaders, including State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel, and the police chiefs and sheriffs in some of the state\u2019s largest population centers.<\/p><p>South Carolina is one of only five states without some type of open carry law, joining atypical partners such as California, Florida, Illinois and New York.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel bad for South Carolinians on this. However, part of me is somewhat amused by it. The amusement comes because South Carolina has always been considered the epitome of gentility unlike us ruffians in <a href=\"http:\/\/daresociety.blogspot.com\/2009\/04\/this-vale-of-humility.html\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&#8220;vale of humility&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> called North Carolina. <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.law.yale.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=5626&amp;context=ylj\" class=\"rank-math-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Old court cases in the 1800s<\/strong><\/a> held that only ruffians, scofflaws, and the like carried concealed whereas gentlemen carried their arms openly. <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, other than higher mountains, more people, and more area, you mean?
