This <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/17422183\/1\/national-rifle-association-of-america-v-james\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">case was filed<\/a><\/strong> virtually immediately after James filed for dissolution of the NRA in state court. The suit had accused James of violating the NRA&#8217;s First and 14th Amendment rights to free speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William Brewer III had <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/04\/nra-drops-lawsuit-against-ny-attorney-general-to-pursue-claims-in-manhattan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">this to say in a statement<\/a><\/strong> regarding the move to voluntarily dismiss the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Dropping the Albany case \u201cwill ensure that the NRA\u2019s claims proceed promptly to discovery and a full vindication of its members\u2019 rights,\u201d NRA lawyer William Brewer said in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2021\/attorney-general-james-responds-nra-dropping-countersuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"rank-math-link\">James to respond<\/a><\/strong> with a public statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cThe NRA dropping its countersuit today in federal court is an implicit admission that their strategy would never prevail. The truth is that Wayne LaPierre and his lieutenants used the NRA as a breeding ground for personal gain and a lavish lifestyle. We were victorious against the organization\u2019s attempt to declare bankruptcy, and our fight for transparency and accountability will continue because no one is above the law.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that Brewer and his firm were the architects of this legal strategy which they are now abandoning, it would be nice if they returned the money spent on legal fees for this case to the NRA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We all know that will never happen. What it does underscore is how much money the NRA has wasted on legal fees paid to Brewer, Attorneys and Counselors, with nothing to show for it.
