Natasha Marcus (D-Mecklenburg). A lawyer and community organizer,<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/natashamarcus.com\/bio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Marcus proudly proclaims her membership in Moms Demand Action<\/a><\/strong>. She is a graduate of Hamilton College in New York and the Duke University School of Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img1.wsimg.com\/isteam\/ip\/d5d86d34-c7d4-477f-a3bb-c4cc4e92e0b2\/Sen%20Marcus%202021%20official%20headshot.jpg\/:\/cr=t:0%25,l:0%25,w:100%25,h:100%25\/rs=w:400,cg:true\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>From Marcus campaign website<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In her opposition to the repeal<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/lifestyle-health-coronavirus-pandemic-bills-gun-politics-11b4abbc5d98479c79beafb248ac1ecd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">, the AP reports this:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The local pistol permit requirement began in 1919 during the Jim Crow era, and some bill supporters argue it\u2019s still preventing law-abiding black residents from obtaining weapons. <strong>But a local NAACP leader spoke against the bill earlier Wednesday, and Marcus said such opposition is evidence to her that the current permitting system isn\u2019t racist<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Just because a local NAACP leader spoke against the repeal does not confer racial neutrality upon the law. I&#8217;m sure if Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R-NC) who is black had condemned the existing law as discriminatory and based upon a desire for white supremacy &#8211; which it was &#8211; that Sen. Marcus would ignore it and call Lt. Gov. Robinson just a tool of the NRA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Sen. Marcus was born and bred in New York against h<\/a>er<\/strong>. My mother was born and raised in New York and Paul Valone who has been tireless in the fight to overturn this Jim Crow law is also a New York native. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I do hold her ignorance of North Carolina history against her. I also find it contemptuous that she uses the testimony of a NAACP leader as her justification for saying the law is not racist. To be perfectly frank, she couldn&#8217;t care less whether it was or was not racist.
