of the projects I set for myself when I attended the Dallas Safari Club Convention was to seek tips and advice for those hunting Africa for the first time. I spoke to professional hunters (PHs) and other experts for their advice. My question to them was what would be the one tip that you would give a person planning to hunt Africa for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.biggame.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/dsc-logo-hi-rezzer.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is what I got in no particular order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dylan<\/strong> L<strong>ove <\/strong>&#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/huntershillsafaris.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Huntershill <\/a><\/strong>Safaris, South Africa, and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PHjornals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PH Journal<\/a><\/strong> Podcast. (He has a must listen to podcast)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do your research on potential outfitters and especially check out their social media. It will be the most up to date.<\/li><li>Let the outfitters handle the finer details.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Craig Bod<a href=\"https:\/\/www.craigboddington.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dington<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; author, hunter, and TV show host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Listen to your PH!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rob<\/strong> <strong>Lurie<\/strong> &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/zpga.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Game Association.<\/a><\/strong> They have the toughest standards for licensing in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do your homework!<\/li><li>Ponder all you options.<\/li><li>Ask for <strong>recent<\/strong> references.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dzombo.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Japsie Blaauw &#8211; Dzombo Hunting Safaris<\/a><\/strong>, Namibia and Botswana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Practice shooting off of sticks.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marius Goesen <\/strong>&#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/huntsafaris.co.za\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KMG Safaris<\/a><\/strong>, South Africa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Trust your PH<\/li><li>Don&#8217;t overpack. Your own guns will just be a hassle.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alex<\/strong> <strong>Oelofse<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>J<a href=\"https:\/\/www.janoelofsesafaris.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an Oelofs<\/a>e Hunting<\/strong> <strong>Safaris<\/strong>, Namibia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Plan a few extra days to see wildlife like elephants and lions if not on the hunting property<\/li><li>Ask the outfitter whether you will be hunting all on one block of property or will you travel to another block. If another block, ask how far.<\/li><li>Be wary of outfitters and PHs &#8220;overselling&#8221; size of the animals.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I think these are all good tips. I probably would have gotten more tips from more outfitters if I always remembered to ask when I visiting a booth.
