Sense<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrats in the US House of Representatives are struggling to find the final votes needed to pass <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1808\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22assault+weapons%22%2C%22assault%22%2C%22weapons%22%5D%7D&amp;r=2&amp;s=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HR 1808<\/a><\/strong>, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021. While the bill does have 212 co-sponsors, it needs 218 votes to pass. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/07\/19\/house-democrats-gun-laws-00046675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">As Politico notes,<\/a><\/strong> they are still trying to find the final votes needed to pass the bill. They might get a vote or two from Republicans like Rep. Adam Kinzinger (RINO-IL) and Rep. Chris Jacobs (RINO-NY) both of whom are retiring after this session. Even if it does pass the House, it will go nowhere in the Senate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1994_United_States_elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last time Congress passed an assault weapons ban<\/a><\/strong>, the Democrats lost the both houses of Congress. The Republicans picked up 8 seats in the Senate and 54 seats in the House. Even House Speaker Tom Foley (D-WA) lost his seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/schrader.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR)<\/a><\/strong>, a six-term congressman who just <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/election2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lost his primary<\/a><\/strong> to extreme leftist, anti-gun, Liz Warren-endorsed<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jamiefororegon.com\/endorsements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Jamie McLeod-Skinner<\/a><\/strong>, did remember what happened after passage of the &#8217;94 AWB. Moreover, it is not like Schrader is even <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/schrader.house.gov\/newsroom\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=393122\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">remotely<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/schrader.house.gov\/issues-legislation\/gun-violence-prevention.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pro-gun<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/07\/19\/house-democrats-gun-laws-00046675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">From Politico<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThis is a bill that destroyed the Democrats in \u201894. I guess, do we really have a death wish list as Democrats?\u201d said Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), who will not be on the ballot in November as he has already lost his primary.<\/p><p>The Oregonian centrist is one of more than a half-dozen Democrats either opposed to or undecided on the legislation, many from rural districts where gun safety laws are more contentious. Part of Schrader\u2019s argument: Democrats would risk stomping on their latest bipartisan gun bill by passing something that goes further but will not become law: \u201cIt undermines what we already did and reemphasizes to all the people in America that are not hardcore urban Democrats that our party\u2019s out of touch.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Republicans have long been referred to as &#8220;the stupid party&#8221; for their propensity to snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory. This time it looks like the Democrats are well on their way to being the stupid party. But, then again, as the Instapundit always says, &#8220;Don&#8217;t get cocky&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> The National Shooting Sports Foundation <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shootingwire.com\/releases\/7bd3ea4b-b41d-41bd-93ed-30825c56bf56\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">updated their estimate<\/a><\/strong> of modern sporting rifles in circulation. It is now over 24 million.
