I personally found it a good book pointing out the controversies surrounding Wayne LaPierre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David&#8217;s reviews takes on two persistent myths about the NRA. First that they only became political after the Cincinnati Revolt of 1977. Second that they are the most powerful lobby in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other three books are <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3zTGVq3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Firepower: How the NRA Turned Gun Owners into a Political Force<\/a><\/strong> by political scientist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/barnard.edu\/profiles\/matthew-lacombe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Matthew J. Lacombe<\/a><\/strong>;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Phnj51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Gun Crusaders: The NRA&#8217;s Culture War<\/a><\/strong> by sociologist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.professorscottmelzer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scott Melzer<\/a><\/strong>; and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3QCJW4V\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The NRA: The Unauthorized History<\/a><\/strong> by journalist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/franksmyth.com\/bio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frank Smyth<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(You can also find links to each of the books on David&#8217;s blog page <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gunculture2point0.wordpress.com\/2022\/08\/10\/light-over-heat-33-the-professor-reviews-4-books-on-the-nra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After listening to his review of all four books, I think Lacombe&#8217;s Firepower will be my next book to read on the NRA. He also has a number of academic articles out on the gun culture and the NRA according to <strong>Google Scholar<\/strong>.
