Beyond the fact that it is the usual pearl-clutching drivel, it is amusing how they refer to the North Carolina legislative body that passed the repeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The North Carolina chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action released the following statement after the <strong>North Carolina Assembly<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/dyaoll\/5botyzi\/dya8sfb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">followed the<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/dyaoll\/5botyzi\/tqb8sfb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Senate<\/a> and voted to advance <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/dyaoll\/5botyzi\/9ic8sfb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB50<\/a> \u2014 a dangerous piece of legislation that would repeal the state\u2019s background check requirement which has been on the books in North Carolina since 1919, and which requires a person to obtain a permit before they can legally buy a handgun. The permitting system also provides local sheriffs with authority to deny permits to people who would pose a threat to public safety with a handgun.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>New York&#8217;s lower house is called the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nyassembly.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assembly<\/a><\/strong>. North Carolina&#8217;s is the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/House\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">House of Representatives<\/a><\/strong>. The only &#8220;assembly&#8221; in North Carolina is the General Assembly which is the term for the combined bodies of the House and Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A real grassroots organization would have been aware of the difference.
