We have all seen the various &#8220;Journalist Guide to Firearms Identification&#8221; cartoons where every gun is either an AK-47 or a Glock such as the one below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v620\/theweaselking\/main4\/77d3d70b.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"332\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v620\/theweaselking\/main4\/77d3d70b.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/camden\/index.ssf\/2012\/04\/camden_man_given_nine-year_ter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thanks to a reporter named John Barna of the Gloucester County (NJ) Times<\/a> I may have an alternative. Reporting on the sentencing of a felon in possession of a firearm, here is how the firearm in question was identified.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>On July 10, 2010, Burks knowingly possessed <b>a 9mm Springfield Armory model XD-9 Sub-Compact <u>Luger pistol<\/u><\/b>, with a 16-round, high-capacity magazine, at a McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Camden.  Burks was found with the pistol during an arrest on unrelated weapons charges. Burks had previous felony convictions at the time.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am still trying to wrap my head around a polymer <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luger_P08_pistol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luger P.08<\/a> much less a sub-compact one made by Springfield Armory in Croatia. <\/p>\n<p>I have a modest suggestion for Mr. Barna and everyone else in the media. The next time you decide to write about a gun as part of a story &#8211; even a mere 3-paragraph story &#8211; go to the NSSF website and <a href=\"http:\/\/nssf.org\/Newsroom\/writers\/guide\/introduction.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read the &#8220;Writer&#8217;s Guide to Firearms and Ammunition.&#8221;<\/a> It will keep you from sounding stupid.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to guns, the media is so ignorant.
