It wouldn&#8217;t have mattered if it was a DC insider like Kavanaugh or an outsider like Hardiman or Kethledge. If they ever said or wrote anything that was pro-gun rights, then they were anathema.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/everytown.org\/press\/everytown-for-gun-safety-statement-on-president-trumps-nomination-of-judge-brett-kavanaugh-to-the-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Michael Bloomberg&#8217;s wholly owned Everytown Moms for Illegal Mayors<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>\u201cPresident Trump vowed he\u2019d never let the NRA down, and with the Kavanaugh pick, he chose someone whose judicial record demonstrates a dangerous view of the Second Amendment that elevates gun rights above public safety. We oppose this nomination and urge the Senate to vote it down.\u201d<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<i>The Supreme Court made clear in its decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, that \u201cLike most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.\u201d The Court also confirmed \u201cthat the right was not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.\u201d Judges appointed by both Republicans and Democrats since then have repeatedly upheld reasonable gun laws as consistent with the Second Amendment.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<i>MORE INFORMATION ON JUDGE KAVANAUGH\u2019S SECOND AMENDMENT RECORD:<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Judge Kavanaugh has applied an extreme and dangerous interpretation of the Second Amendment when determining whether a law is constitutional, one that does not take into account a law\u2019s impact on public safety.<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Judge Kavanaugh has made clear he would strike down prohibitions on the AR-15 and other assault-style weapons. In 2011, he dissented from a decision upholding Washington, D.C.\u2019s prohibition on assault-style weapons and its requirement to register handguns.
