href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/maldonado_sjq.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nominated by President Biden for a position as a judge on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals<\/a><\/strong>. She has been a judge on the District Court since 2022. According to her <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fjc.gov\/history\/judges\/maldonado-nancy-lee\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.fjc.gov\/history\/judges\/maldonado-nancy-lee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">judicial biography<\/a><\/strong>, she received her undergraduate degree from Harvard and her law degree from Columbia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her confirmation hearing yesterday, she was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/seventh-circuit-nominee-maldonado-faces-sharp-questions-from-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned about an amicus brief<\/a><\/strong> submitted by the Brady Center supporting a ban on &#8220;assault weapons&#8221; (sic) in Illinois. She was the attorney who had signed the brief. Signing a brief is a serious matter for any attorney. As <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.typelaw.com\/why-signatures-matter-in-a-legal-brief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TypeLaw points out<\/a><\/strong>, signing a brief attests to the fact that the attorney has read the brief and that the information contained in it is accurate and complete.<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/content.next.westlaw.com\/Document\/N71274E70B96011D8983DF34406B5929B\/View\/FullText.html?transitionType=Default&amp;contextData=%28sc.Default%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure<\/a><\/strong> says that a lawyer signing a brief attests that the &#8220;factual contentions have evidentiary support.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/natchitochesparishjournal.com\/2019\/08\/07\/u-s-senator-john-kennedy-congressional-update-luncheon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)<\/a><\/strong> comes across as folksy and non-threatening. Nonetheless, he is like a dog with a bone when he is questioning a witness or, in this case, the nominee Judge Maldonado. He pressed her on what she meant by assault weapon.
