The new comment deadline<br \/>\nis<b> Wednesday, June 27.&nbsp;<\/b>Simply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgv.org\/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.regulations.gov%2Fcomment%3FD%3DATF-2018-0002-0001&amp;e=d06a846588874f12da71a7902bd55510&amp;utm_source=ncgv&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=bump_stocks3&amp;n=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click<br \/>\nhere to comment.<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>Please take a moment to comment <b>today.<\/b> The other<br \/>\nside has been flooding ATF with comments against the proposed<br \/>\nregulation and we need to show public support for it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Becky<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>On the night of October 1,<br \/>\n2017, a gunman opened fire from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the<br \/>\nMandalay Bay hotel into the 22,000 person crowd at the Route 91<br \/>\nHarvest country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, killing 58 people<br \/>\nand injuring more than 500. The gunman fired more than 1,100 rounds of<br \/>\nammunition in 11 minutes, using semi-automatic rifles modified with<br \/>\ndangerous firearm accessories designed to dramatically accelerate the<br \/>\nrate of gunfire, commonly known as \u201cbump fire stocks.\u201d These devices<br \/>\nare intended to circumvent the restrictions on possession of fully<br \/>\nautomatic firearms in the Gun Control Act of 1968 and the National<br \/>\nFirearms Act of 1934 by allowing an individual to modify a<br \/>\nsemiautomatic rifle in such a manner that it operates with a similar<br \/>\nrate of fire as a fully automatic rifle, posing a substantial risk to<br \/>\npublic safety.<\/p>\n<p>In the absence of immediate<br \/>\naction by Congress, I urge ATF to finalize its proposed rule<br \/>\nclarifying that bump fire stocks, along with other \u201cconversion<br \/>\ndevices\u201d that enable semiautomatic weapons to mimic automatic fire,<br \/>\nqualify as \u201cmachine guns\u201d under the National Firearms Act. And then<br \/>\nCongress must act as well\u2014to ensure that manufacturers cannot continue<br \/>\nto endanger public safety by designing devices that imitate machine<br \/>\nguns and subvert the law. The continued presence of these dangerous<br \/>\ndevices puts all of our communities at risk, and both Congress and ATF<br \/>\nmust take action quickly to address this threat.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolinians Against Gun Violence<\/p>\n<p>NCGV<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgv.org\/?e=d06a846588874f12da71a7902bd55510&amp;utm_source=ncgv&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=bump_stocks3&amp;n=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.ncgv.org\/<\/a><\/i><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While I may think bump fire stocks are a novelty and a good way to waste ammunition, I don&#8217;t want them banned. My rationale is that banning them is merely a first step towards more regulation of semi-automatic firearms of all sorts. The Department of Justice&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/file\/1046006\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legal rationale as published<\/a> is an exercise in legal sophistry and they know it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I would refer readers back to this <a href=\"http:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com\/2018\/04\/comment-period-opens-on-proposed-bump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post <\/a>from April which features a video by Adam Kraut if you need some suggestions on how to respond to the request for comments. However, getting objections on file is the key to bringing a lawsuit. Take 5-10 minutes and submit a comment.
