The five kidnappers from Missouri thought Muller was the man who had swindled one of their friends. After his return to New Jersey,&nbsp; he applied for a concealed carry permit in New Jersey as, at the time, some of the kidnappers were still at large. While approved for it by the NJ State Police, he was turned down by Judge Philip Maenza. This denial is at the heart of the <a href=\"http:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/saf-reacts-to-new-jersey-ags-response.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Second Amendment Foundation case<\/a> brought challenging NJ&#8217;s concealed carry laws.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to today. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2011\/03\/judge_denies_handgun_permit_fo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Morris County Superior Court, Judge David Ironson<\/a> denied Mr. Muller&#8217;s appeal of his permit denial saying that &#8220;failed to provide &#8216;proof of justifiable need&#8217; to carry a handgun and said he should take his case to a state appeals court.&#8221; Currently, four of the five kidnappers are in jail awaiting trial in Sussex County, NJ. However, the fifth kidnapper, Roy Slates, has served his time and is now out of prison.<\/p>\n<p>As Mr. Muller said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>In an interview after the hearing, Muller said he needs to carry a handgun because \u201cthere\u2019s the potential\u201d of the five kidnappers\u2019 family members \u201ccoming after me to get revenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey could send anybody out after me,\u201d Muller said, noting that \u201cthe way we live has changed\u201d since the ordeal. \u201cEverything\u2019s locked,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think about it every day,\u201d Muller said. \u201cI look at everybody who comes in my store.\u201d<\/i> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If anyone has ever met the definition of &#8220;justifiable need&#8221; for the State of New Jersey to approve a concealed carry permit it is Jeff Muller.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/morristown\/index.ssf\/2008\/01\/new_judges_ready_for_job.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Judge Ironson has been on the bench since 2008<\/a>. Before his being named a Superior Court judge, David Ironson was a personal injury lawyer. You would think that even a pond-scum sucking ambulance chaser might recognize that the concept of &#8220;justifiable need&#8221; applied in Jeff Muller&#8217;s case. <\/p>\n<p>Independence. Integrity. Fairness. Quality Service. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.judiciary.state.nj.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Those words are emblazoned under the logo<\/a> of the New Jersey Court system.
