It is the Discovery Channel&#8217;s new reality TV show featuring a custom gun manufacturer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I&#8217;d say the show is kind of a blend of American Chopper with the family bickering (but not as nasty) and Monster Garage with its machine shop ingenuity.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"360\" id=\"dit-video-embed\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"http:\/\/static.discoverymedia.com\/videos\/components\/snag-it-player.html?network=dsc&amp;clipRefId=6a0223a2715dd0f8cfda7fe01464f7b4fa48e1b6&amp;auto=no\" width=\"640\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The first episode featured the modern and the historic. Red Jacket was commissioned to construct a suppressed Saiga 12 shotgun. After one misfire because it was too loud, they succeeded in reducing the sound to 144 db. Even better, the shotgun is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redjacketfirearms.com\/firearms\/firearms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available for sale from Red Jacket for $2500 plus NFA tax stamp<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/slide1.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/slide1.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nThe historic was a <a href=\"http:\/\/dsc.discovery.com\/tv\/sons-of-guns\/historical-weapons.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Confederate cannon made in 1862 from the church bells of New Orleans<\/a>. It was valued at $250,000 and the owner wanted to know if it was safe to fire. After having it X-rayed, they took it out to the field and had a go with it. For something that hadn&#8217;t been fired since 1865, it held together and was as accurate as could be expected.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, I enjoyed the show. I think they overdid Will&#8217;s daughter Stephanie trying to control Will&#8217;s child-like impulsiveness but it wouldn&#8217;t be a &#8220;reality TV show&#8221; without a bit of the bickering.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I watched both episodes of Sons of Guns tonight.
