Today he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/ryan-zinke-new-interior-secretary-rides-horse-first-day-work-n728151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rode in to work on a horse<\/a> and in one of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.gov\/pressreleases\/day-one-secretary-zinke-signs-orders-expand-access-public-lands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first acts got rid of the lead ammo and fishing tackle ban.<\/a> That ban, <a href=\"http:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com\/2017\/01\/parting-shot-at-shooters-and-hunters.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Directive No. 219, was the work of former Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe<\/a> who signed it on the last full day of the Obama Administration.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/order_no._3346-page-001-796x1024.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/onlygunsandmoney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/order_no._3346-page-001-796x1024.jpg\" width=\"496\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nSec. Zinke, a former Navy SEAL, obviously knows to have to get things done.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.safariclub.org\/what-we-do\/freedom-to-hunt\/first-for-hunters-blog\/first-for-hunters\/2017\/03\/02\/secretary-zinke-reverses-obama-administration-ammunition-order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Safari Club International released this statement on his order<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Safari Club International was one of nearly twenty pro-hunting organizations invited to meet with Secretary Ryan Zinke today, on his first day at work as Secretary of the Interior.  We applaud Secretary Zinke for reversing Dan Ashe\u2019s last minute Director\u2019s Order that directed the phase-out of traditional lead-based ammunition and fishing tackle use on all 81 million acres of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lands and waters by 2022.  Former FWS Director Ashe issued Director\u2019s Order 219 on the last day of the Obama Administration, imposing severe ammunition restrictions without input from the states, the public, and ammunition and tackle manufacturers.  <\/p>\n<p>Ashe\u2019s Director\u2019s Order failed to take into account the harm that eliminating lead-based ammunition could cause to wildlife conservation and habitat management programs supported by the sales of firearms and ammunition.  It ignored the question of whether adequate alternate ammunition types would be available to substitute for lead-based ammunition.  The former Director\u2019s measures would have seriously undermined hunting and the important role it plays in wildlife conservation.   In issuing Director\u2019s Order 219, Ashe sought to impose Obama Administration prejudices into FWS management of lands for the next five years and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Secretary Zinke returned science and reason to federal decision-making about ammunition use.  By reversing Director\u2019s Order 219, the Secretary has prevented the harm the former administration\u2019s hasty and thoughtless attack would have caused the hunting community.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The NRA was represented at this event by NRA-ILA Director Chris Coxe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nraila.org\/articles\/20170302\/the-nra-applauds-secretary-zinkes-protection-of-traditional-ammunition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who released this statement:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>The National Rifle Association applauds Secretary Zinke\u2019s decision to withdraw Director\u2019s Order No. 219, a decree imposed on the final day of the Obama presidency to ban the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle on national wildlife refuges. Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA\u2019s Institute for Legislative Action, attended the official signing of Secretarial Order 3347.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a reckless, unilateral overreach that would have devastated the sportsmen&#8217;s community,\u201d said Cox. \u201cThe Obama administration failed to consult with state fish and wildlife agencies or national angling and hunting organizations in issuing this order. This was not a decision based on sound scientific evidence &#8212; it was a last second attack on traditional ammunition and our hunting heritage.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on January 19, 2017, Director\u2019s Order No. 219 bans the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle on lands, waters, and facilities managed by the Service. Today&#8217;s action demonstrates Secretary Zinke\u2019s commitment to protecting our country\u2019s treasured outdoor legacy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact is that traditional ammunition does not pose a significant population-level risk for wildlife.
