The upaid furlough will be from June 3rd until August 2nd.&nbsp; The Ilion plant was already scheduled to be scheduled for a maintenance shutdown for the first two weeks of July and employees are getting paid leave for that time.<\/p>\n<p>Ilion Mayor Brian Lamica had this to say to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uticaod.com\/news\/20190528\/remington-announces-partial-shutdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utica Observer-Dispatch<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n<i>Ilion Mayor Brian Lamica received word of the layoffs Tuesday. He was told that one of the product lines, employing about 280 people, will continue to run through the summer, but the rest will be idled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring that period there\u2019s a normal two-week shutdown. That will be a paid vacation period for those who have paid vacation,\u201d Lamica added.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Remington is planning to bring back the entire workforce Aug. 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not good,\u201d Lamica commented of the move. \u201cI\u2019m optimistic things will pick up for them come early fall and everybody will be back to work. Two weeks is one thing, but two months \u2014 even though two weeks would be paid \u2014 I feel sorry for the workers and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The furlough could result in some workers leaving the area to find another job, the mayor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been hearing rumors for about two weeks. I was hoping things would turn around. There\u2019s too much in the warehouse and not enough being bought,\u201d Lamica said.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/romesentinel.com\/stories\/remington-arms-to-furlough-nearly-500-workers,77183?fbclid=IwAR1hB7kX_lu7EUu78kK2hWghqp_8iFqtCc9Wq8jP_vR3Monf5g4gceBq3XY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the Rome (NY) Sentinel<\/a>, no notice was given to the NY State Department of Labor as may be required under the New York State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
