“Disputed And Unconfirmed”

The Brady Campaign issued a new “research report” today entitled Officer Gunned Down. I won’t get into a critique of the so-called study now. Rather, I want to point out what might be one of their first comments on Operation Fast and Furious (aka Project Gunwalker).(corrected)

Rio Rico, Arizona, Dec. 14, 2010.

Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, 40, was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a group of armed subjects who had been robbing illegal immigrants as soon as they crossed the border from Mexico to Arizona.

Two of the guns recovered at the scene of Agent Terry’s murder were part of a Phoenix-based sting operation targeting major Mexican drug trafficking organizations. The shooting has engendered controversy, as it s alleged that federal prosecutors and ATF permitted 1,998 guns to be purchased and retained by suspected straw buyers in the hope that a major case could be built. While the truth of those allegations are disputed and unconfirmed. it is undisputed that if firearms laws were stronger by prohibiting multiple sales and requiring responsible sales practices, these gun sales could not have been legally completed.

Other weapons from the sting were recovered in May 2010, when a Customs and Border Protection agent confronted an armed band of criminals along the U.S. side of the border. The suspects fled but some of the guns they left behind were traced back to weapons purchased in the sting

The allegations are disputed and unconfirmed?

Are the authors of this report living in Never-Never Land? Have they not seen the CBS News reports by Sharyl Attkisson where ATF Agents have gone on camera and on record about Operation Fast and Furious? Have they not read the released documents from Senator Grassley and Representative Issa which show that the firearms dealers were told to go through with these sales even though they objected? I won’t even go into the work done by Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea to bring this story to light since December 2010.

These sales would not have been completed if the gun dealers were allowed to follow their own good instincts and decline the sale. They had questions and were co-opted by the powers that be in the Phoenix Field Division.

The authors of this “study” by the Brady Campaign are engaging in willful denial of the facts. To try and blame it on weak gun laws and irresponsible gun dealers is to whitewash the complicity of ATF managers in allowing these gun to walk. Frankly, it is the authors of this study who are being irresponsible.

Unpossible!

The Chicago Sun-Times reports today that an Uptown man was arrrested yesterday after he made “unspecified threats” to the Willis Tower.

..investigators found 20 guns, several pounds of gunpowder and two grenades in his apartment.

But later Monday, police said that “there was no overt threat made,” and that the 60-year-old renter had been taken a facility for a mental evaluation.

Guns? Grenades? Being as this happened in the Daley-run City of Chicago, the only word that comes to mind is unpossible!

People I Missed Seeing At The NRA Annual Meeting

It is a shame we didn’t see them hanging out on the floor of the Convention Center. I would have liked to have introduced them to Breda or NancyR or Laura. I would have reserved Tam for a later date as she might have been too much for Rachel and Meghan to handle.

UPDATE: After having her head almost explode the first time she watched this, Breda has recovered enough to give play by play comments on the McCain-Maddow video.

ATF Whistleblower Jay Dobyns On Fox Business News

ATF Agent Jay Dobyns infilitrated the Hell’s Angels. After he came out of deep cover to testify at trial, his wife was threatened with gang rape, threats of torture were made against his kids, and his house burned down due to arson while his family was originally still in it. Fortunately, his family escaped without harm.

And what did ATF managers in the Phoenix Field Office do in response? Nothing. They left Dobyns and his family hanging out to dry. From Once Proud on the CleanUpATF Forum, “What’s sad is the Hells Angels take better care of their own than ATF takes care of it’s agents!”

Interestingly enough, these are the same managers who ran Operation Fast and Furious. In the interview below, Dobyns says that ATF has become a rogue agency run by corrupt managers.

CCW In Wisconsin Sooner Than Later?

If the Washington Post is to be believed, Republicans in the Wisconsin State Legislature are making a major push to pass certain legislation before recall elections scheduled for this summer.

Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker and GOP leaders have launched a push to ram several years’ worth of conservative agenda items through the Legislature this spring before recall elections threaten to end the party’s control of state government.

Republicans, in a rapid sequence of votes over the next eight weeks, plan to legalize concealed weapons, deregulate the telephone industry, require voters to show photo identification at the polls, expand school vouchers and undo an early release for prisoners.

Six Republican State Senators and three Democrats may face recall elections starting in July. A net change of three seats would let the Democrats regains control of the State Senate. Both the recall elections and the time crunch to pass legislation can be attributed to the clash with public employee unions along with the walk-out by Democrat members of the State Senate.

It can be expected that both the Democrat Party and the unions will put lots of money into these recall elections as they did during the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court election between Justice David Prosser and his Democrat challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg. While still undergoing a recount, it looks like Justice Prosser held onto his seat despite the opposition’s money. However, in a local election, it could have more of an impact.

Deconstructing A New York Times Editiorial

Sebastian at Snow Flakes In Hell does an excellent job in deconstructing an anti-gun editorial that appears in today’s print version of the New York Times.

The editorial deals with the so-called “no-fly” list and gun purchases. This is a secret list of supposed terrorists who are banned from flying. You don’t know how you got on the list, don’t know that you are on the list, and usually have no recourse for getting off the list. As you might expect coming from the New York Times, they want to ban anyone who is on this list from being able to purchase a firearm.

As Sebastian notes, he doubts that they would editorialize against any other part of the Bill of Rights in similar fashion. He then provides some examples.

This Is Inspiring

It is incredible to see the spirit and determination of those who are wheelchair-bound. Andrew at Vuurwapen Blog posted this of his friend “Ferris2son” shooting. With a controller that uses a straw and his breath to pull the trigger, “Ferris2son” is able to shoot almost normally.

There are many able-bodied people out there that whine they can’t do this or that. And then there is “Ferris2son” who doesn’t let his physical challenges stop him from participating in a hobby that he loves.

The man is an inspiration.

Gun Banners Harbor Religious Bigots In Their Midst

Since the Brady Campaign loves to mine Facebook postings for negative information about gun rights supporters, turnabout is fair play. The Days of Our Trailers blog reports on this bigotry here along with a screen shot of the page. That page by the way is still up on Facebook.

In a discussion of the state of Utah being ranked a “0” in the latest Brady State Scorecard, one person wonders whether there is a relationship between Mormonism and attitudes towards gun rights. This prompts a response from Andrew Goddard, father of the Brady Campaign’s newest poster boy Colin Goddard, who says:

Steve – watch the spelling mate – the connection is with “Moronism” rather than a strange cult spelled almost the same.

While I am not a theologian nor am I conversant on all the beliefs of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, I wouldn’t call them a “strange cult”. Indeed, I find their emphasis on family life and on preparedness refreshing in this day and age where all too many rely upon the government to take care of them.

I call upon Sarah Brady and Paul Helmke to repudiate Mr. Goddard’s bigoted statements in the harshest of terms. Failure to do so will mean that they wish to be complicit in the promotion of religious bigotry.

UPDATE: David Codrea devotes his National Gun Rights Examiner column to the Brady Scorecard and the religious intolerance shown on their Facebook page.
