The quote of the day comes Miguel at GunFreeZone. In a story about an Alto Bonito, TX teen who used not only a gun but an AK-47 to protect himself and his family from four armed men, Miguel commented:

In a column for PJ Media, Mike McDaniel examined the killing of two home owners when their homes were invaded by SWAT teams. In both cases, neither home owner had broken the law and no evidence of any wrongdoing on their part was found. Their only “crime” was to be armed in the presence of overzealous SWAT teams. In the case of Jose Guerena, the police had a warrant but no probable cause for its issue. In the case of Andrew Lee Scott, they had the wrong guy and the wrong apartment when they knocked on the door.
McDaniel is a former police officer, detective, and SWAT team officer so I think he knows of what he speaks.
In a free society, a society with a fundamental right to keep and bear arms, police officers believing they may shoot a citizen in his own home simply because he is carrying a firearm cannot be tolerated. Officers must absolutely avoid putting citizens in situations where they might be armed, or even pointing firearms in the direction of police officers banging on or breaking down their front doors. If such misconduct is tolerated, as in the cases of Jose Guerena and Andrew Scott, the next knock on any citizen’s door may be the last they ever answer.
The quote of the day comes from Tam regarding Attorney General Eric Holder’s announcement of a special investigation into leaks of classified information.
Eric Holder announced that he was shocked, shocked! to find that there were leaks of classified information from the Obama administration, and he would investigate it immediately. I have no idea how the newscaster read that line with a straight face; this is like expecting the minister for Reich security in 1940s Germany to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Jews.
The Serious Gun Blog had a not so serious look at the choices gun owners face in this presidential election.
When all is said and done, and more will be said than done, a President will be elected. Either Mr. Obama, who hates guns unless they are used against bad guys like free citizens or Mitt Romney, who as a passionate supporter of the NRA cites as his favorite gun the Ruger 11 mm Glock by Smith & Bushmaster will be elected.
What does it mean for gun owners? Buy more guns now.

Sheriff Jim Wilson is always good for a funny quip or comment on the affairs of the day. Here is one he made on Facebook today regarding Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich who hasn’t fared well at the polls.
Newt Gingrich is still receiving Secret Service protection. What are they protecting him from, his ex-wives, or reality?

Here in western North Carolina, the hippies, Yankees, and vegans have turned organic grocery stores like EarthFare, Greenlife, and the French Broad River Co-op into shrines for politically correct food. The next time I’m tempted to go shopping at one of these places I’ll remember these wise words from Tam.
People browse the organic breakfast food shelves for the muesli that tastes most like authentic sawmill floor sweepings, because that’s how you know it’s good for you. It’s not food, it’s a hair shirt you eat. When you’re doing penance for not going jogging this morning or for having that extra martini last night, it’s not supposed to taste good.
I’ll leave the hair shirts to the long dead saints and mystics.
The quote of the day comes from Sebastian at Shall Not Be Questioned. He notes the narrative continues despite all indications from recent reports that the Stand Your Ground law has no real bearing on the Trayvon Martin case anymore.
This stopped being about Trayvon Martin days ago. The media is now in a full court press to blame the laws, despite the current witness testimony that essentially reveal that Martin was on top of Zimmerman before the shooting occurred. Duty to retreat is not at issue here. It can’t be at issue. Zimmerman had no means of retreat. The entire question, as I have said since the beginning, will hinge on whether Zimmerman is faultless.
When multi-millionaire NBA stars are joining “million hoodie marches” and when you are shocked that the name “Trayvon” was not uttered in the news round-up on CBS Sunday Morning, you know the whole Zimmerman-Martin affair has jumped the shark.
Thrown into this media circus is a sage, yet snarky, comment from Tam:
I wish the media would find another ball to chase soon. I have never hoped for some random celebrity to choke on their last cookie so hard in my life. Elton John would probably do. He’d wipe the whole Zimmerman/Martin thing right off the front page, and he’s kinda past his Sell-By date, anyway. I mean, all he’s done in the last twenty years is release more re-recordings of songs about dead blondes, right? Come on, Elton, how about leaning in over the plate and taking one for the team?
I can see the epitaph now – “He was just walking down a yellow brick road listening to some crocodile rock and dreaming of being a rocket man when he was beaten by a deaf dumb and blind kid (who) sure plays a mean pinball.”
