Follow-Up To Brady And Mail In Ballots

I noted in a story on Friday that Brady United is pushing vote by mail. There seems to now be a concerted effort by Democrats and other progressive groups to push voting by mail. They are pushing both its convenience and safety.

60 Minutes ran a big story on it last night which was slanted, as you might imagine, towards the Democrats’ version of the issue. They even had the obligatory Republican saying how well it worked in Oregon.

What they didn’t cover and what most of the media seems to want to gloss over is the fraud issue.

The latest case in point comes from Paterson, New Jersey which had a municipal election in May. One in five ballots in that election have been rejected as fraudulent and the local chapter of the NAACP is pushing to have the entire election invalidated.

From Real Clear Politics:

Over 800 ballots in Paterson were invalidated for appearing in mailboxes improperly bundled together – including a one mailbox where hundreds of ballots were in a single packet. The bundles were turned over to law enforcement to investigate potential criminal activity related to the collection of the ballots.

The board of elections disqualified another 2,300 ballots after concluding that the signatures on them did not match the signatures on voter records.

Reporting by NBC further uncovered citizens of Paterson who are listed as having voted, but who told the news outlet they never received a ballot and did not vote. One woman, Ramona Javier, after being shown the list of people on her block who allegedly voted, told the outlet she knew of eight family members and neighbors who were wrongly listed. “We did not receive vote-by-mail ballots and thus we did not vote,” she said. “This is corruption. This is fraud.”

There were multiple reports that large numbers of mail-in ballots were left on the lobby floors of apartment buildings and not delivered to residents’ individual mailboxes, further casting doubt on the integrity of the election.

NJ Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, no friend of gun owners, announced vote fraud charges against four people involved in that election including both a councilman and a councilman-elect.

Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal today announced voting fraud charges against Paterson City Councilman Michael Jackson, Councilman-Elect Alex Mendez, and two other men in connection with the May 12, 2020 special election in the City of Paterson.

All four men are charged with criminal conduct involving mail-in ballots during the election, Grewal said. The investigation by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity & Accountability (OPIA) began when the U.S. Postal Inspection Service alerted the Attorney General’s Office that hundreds of mail-in ballots were found in a mailbox in Paterson.  Numerous additional ballots were found in a mailbox in nearby Haledon.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all voting in May 12 elections in New Jersey was done by mail-in ballots.

If you have this level of fraud in one election in one city in one state, imagine it on a national scale. A vote here and a vote there is enough to tip the scales in many battleground states. Invariably that scale will be tipped towards anti-gun Democrats and that is how it becomes a Second Amendment issue.

  1. All Democrats: There is no voter/voting fraud in the US.
After the loose: The election was fixed/tampered with/fraudulent.

There are two cases I know of where it is *highly* likely that voting/voter fraud contributed to an election result that was likely the result of fraud.

The first is the election of Al Franken to the US Senate. After the election results were finalized and he had been in office for a number of years, an investigation of the election showed that a number of felons had voted in the election. The number of confirmed felons that voted would have been enough to change the results. The assumption is that most of those felons would have voted democratic.

(One of the arguments is that just because more people are voting than should be doesn’t mean that those people are voting for any particular party. An argument that statistics do not seem to support.)

The other election was the election of Maggie Hassan in NH. She won by 1,017 votes with her opponent gracefully conceding without vast court battles.

After the fact it turns out that there were a large number of people that voted in very blue areas with same day registration that never completed the process of becoming NH residents.

There are a number of collages in NH that are near the boarder to MA. It looks like more than 1500 students registered to vote in the 2016 election and then never actually became NH residents. This number is more than enough to have tipped the results.

To keep our elections fair and honest we need to:
    1) Make sure that only people that are legally entitled to vote in the election actually vote in the election. This is accomplished by cleaning voter rolls and by voter ID and making sure that voter rolls are up-to-date
    2) Make sure that there there is only one vote per voter. Good voter rolls, good voter id and good records help. It would be simpler to use the thumb in ink method. The thumb in ink method does allow bad people to disenfranchise people by dipping their thumb before the can vote but…
    3) Make sure that votes are not injected into the system.
    4) Make sure that votes are counted correctly.

Paper audits help in 3. Making sure that voting software is openly inspected is another and allowing for outside testing of voting procedures can help security. I happen to like paper ballots that are machine counted. That provides the paper trail yet reasonable speed of counting. It also means that it is easier to check results. NOTE: As a programmer I know of multiple ways of writing code that would pass most tests but which would skew results on a particular day or time. Example: If a ballet was feed through the machine with a certain code pattern the machine would then skew results by 10% towards particular candidates.

Vote counting is much harder but having good observation helps. I don’t have good ideas on that. The statement is “He who counts the votes, controls the votes.”

As an American Citizen, I don’t understand why the Democrats haven’t gotten up in arms over voting procedures and safe guards. As far as I can tell, every recount done in the last 20 years has resulted in multiple ballet boxes being found only in strong Democratic areas. If proper procedures had been followed and the polling places had performed their duties correctly there would never be any lost ballet boxes to be found at the last minute. I mean, how bad must the Democrats be at doing their duty when they keep finding ballot boxes on loading docks and in the trunks of cars that should have been turned in hours or even days earlier.
