Quote Of The Day

Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to testify today before the Senate Judiciary Committee. According to advanced copies of his written testimony, he is expected to say we need more gun control, that Operation Fast and Furious would not have happened if we had stronger gun control, and that the Republicans in Congress are being irresponsible regarding Project Gunwalker.

Mike Vanderboegh’s response to this and an AP headline about the hearing is priceless.

My favorite headline: Holder on ‘Fast and Furious’: Never again.

“Never again”!?!? Eric Holder taking the pledge on gunwalking is like Reinhard Heydrich swearing off Holocausts or Jeffrey Dahmer announcing that he is an enthusiastic convert to vegetarianism. Like every other criminal, Holder’s not sorry he committed the crime (in his case to advance the gun control agenda), but he’s damn sorry he got caught.

Quote Of The Day

Miguel at Gun Free Zone has a post on why we are winning that illustrates the difference between gun rights activists and those organizations that would prohibit guns if they could.

Both Brady and CSGV do not update their Facebook pages on the weekends. We do our thing 24/7/365. Extrapolating to the rest of the social & regular media, it means that in an average year, we put (in) 105 more days of effort than our adversaries.

The price of Freedom is eternal vigilance. Wishful Overlords work office hours.

And we are not getting any grants from the Joyce Foundation either.

We work harder than our opponents and we do it because we believe in freedom. I think Miguel has hit the nail on head.

Quote Of The Day

In his discussion of rumors that former Deputy Attorney General David Ogden is going to roll over on Eric Holder and others in the Obama Administration – which Mike warns might be a disinformation effort – he goes on to say that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has enough now that they could indict William Newell for perjury. That is, if the Republican leadership would allow it.

Sources say that the Oversight Committee has more than enough evidence to charge “Gunwalker Bill” Newell (and others) with more than one count of perjury. The Republican leadership, specifically John Boehner, is reported to oppose that because “he doesn’t want to get ahead of the facts,” according to one source. The same source, who works for the federal government, added in disgust, “The real reason is that Boehner is a pussy.”

The source believes that were Newell to be charged, demonstrating the seriousness of the Committee’s intent, that “there would be an instant change in the attitude of the rest of the guilty” and that “the cover-up would collapse overnight.” The cover-up “COULD be collapsed overnight,” said the source, “if the Republican leadership had the balls to do it. But they don’t.”

More than once I’ve been tempted to send a set of these to the Republican leadership as a replacement but didn’t want to waste the money.

Quote Of The Day

The gun prohibitionists would have you think that the influence of the NRA and other gun rights organizations extends to the enforcement of gun laws. In a thread on CleanUpATF.org, ATF whistle-blower Vincent Cefalu says it ain’t so.

Stop whining about the big bad NRA wont let us do our job, and go do it. I don’t care what the NRA, GOA or any other partisan group thinks or doesn’t think about the laws we enforce. They are the law of the land until Congress changes it. Its a convenient excuse that they wont let us do our job. I have NEVER been hindered, and that statement is supported by an ATF 100% conviction rate over 24 years.

Quote Of The Day

Reuben Navarette, Jr. is a columnist and former journalist who gets it when it comes to Operation Fast and Furious aka Project Gunwalker. As he notes in an opinion piece published yesterday at CNN.com, this scandal is about dead Mexicans.

Frankly, I am surprised by Holder’s use of words such as “irresponsible” and “inflammatory.” What could be more irresponsible than allowing weapons to be smuggled into a foreign country, weapons that then wind up killing the citizens of that country? And what could be more inflammatory than appearing to cover up such an operation and distancing oneself from it as staffers allegedly yell, scream and curse at reporters who are just doing their jobs?

And what was the purpose of these alleged theatrics? Was all this huffing and puffing intended to get Attkisson to back off the story? Brilliant.

As a former reporter, let me give the administration a tip: Attacking journalists is usually as effective in stamping out a story as gasoline is in putting out a fire.

Quote Of The Day

On Friday, Attorney General Eric Holder sent a long and petulant letter to a number of Congressional leaders on Operation Fast and Furious. Today, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, responded back. The closing paragraph is the quote of the day.

Operation Fast and Furious was the Department’s most significant gun trafficking case. It related to two of your major initiatives – destroying the Mexican cartels and reducing gun violence on both sides of the border. On your watch, it went spectacularly wrong. Whether you realize yet or not, you own Fast and Furious. It is your responsibility.

Quote Of The Day

I rarely make the Quote of the Day about financial matters but this quote from fund manager Bill Gross was too good to pass up. Gross is the Chief Investment Officer for Pacfic Investment Management and is the manager of the world’s largest bond fund, PIMCO Total Return. With regard to the amount of debt in the developed world including the United States, Gross had this to say:

The midriff “bulge” would be a rather kind description of
today’s debt crisis. No muffin top there – if anything,
sovereign balance sheets resemble an overweight diabetic on
the verge of a heart attack.

I should note in passing that Gross tends to lean towards the Democrats and was very critical of President George W. Bush.

Quote Of The Day

Investors Business Daily is taking a hard line on Eric Holder and his perjurious testimony given to the House Judiciary Committee regarding when he first knew of Operation Fast and Furious. In an editorial published this evening entitled “Indict Eric Holder”, they concluded:

As Issa told radio talk show host Laura Ingraham last month: “We have a paper trail of so many people knowing that the only way the attorney general didn’t know is he made sure he didn’t want to know. … But if you don’t want to know something of this sort, then you shouldn’t have the job he has.”

We’d go a step further. Baseball star Roger Clemens was equally vehement when he told a House committee in 2008: “Let me be clear. I have never taken steroids or HGH.” Clemens was indicted for lying to Congress.

The same should go for Eric Holder.

And I would add that IBD is correct.

Quote Of The Day

Michael Bane in his Downrange Radio podcast, Episode 232 had a great comparison between the TV show Sons of Anarchy and the ATF at about the 11 minute mark.

If someone can tell me the difference between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Sons of Anarchy, I’d sure like to hear it. I don’t know if you’ve seen the show Sons of Anarchy – it’s a biker gang that runs guns. Gosh! I actually don’t understand the difference between Sons of Anarchy and ATF. They both run guns. They both don’t pay attention to the national borders. They both don’t care who the collateral damage is.
