71 And Counting

The NRA Board now stands at 71 members with the most recent resignations that happened late yesterday. Carol Frampton and Curtis Jenkins have resigned effective Wednesday.

The notice from John Frazer was received after 9pm last night.

Carol Frampton and Curtis Jenkins have now resigned from the Board.  Please join us in thanking them for their service over many years.  We now have 71 Board members.

Mrs. Frampton’s term would have expired in 2028, so her resignation creates an additional vacancy to be filled by the mail ballot.  (Rep. Jenkins’s term would have expired in 2026, and therefore doesn’t affect the election.)

Members will now vote for the following seats:

  • Twenty-five three-year terms that expire in 2029
  • Five two-year terms that expire in 2028
  • Four one-year terms that expire in 2027

This means that a total of 35 directors will be elected if you count the 76th Director who will be elected at the Annual Meeting in April. The pool of candidates is effectively at 37 which means virtually all candidates will be elected.

Many have said this is a good opportunity to reduce the size of the Board. That was a topic that was raised today at the Special Committee on Organization. Many differing views were raised by all those who attended that committee meeting. While sentiment seems to be swaying towards a reduction in size, there was no clear consensus on how many, how it would be implemented, if there would then be a “board of advisors”, and other similar concerns.

Amanda Suffecool who is now chair of this committee appointed Gen. Jack Hagan to a select committee of three to look at the issue and report back.

  1. When I see these people resigning, I have to ask why.

I get that life affects people. But when a number of people in the same organization suddenly seem to quit simultaneously, a business owner would suspect some organizational problem.

Looks like the NRA has not yet recovered. As a life member I’m sorry to see that

    1. Most of the resignations have been associated with the Old Guard, or as they were initially called, the cabal. We were told to stop saying cabal when it became clear there was a good chance they’d have to work with some of them, so Old Guard became the polite way of saying they were the leaders who oversaw everything going off the rails & weren’t interested in meaningful change. There are also direct financial issues related to where they get funding & grants for other projects that employ them at least one, probably more.

  2. Don’t forget that people like Jim Porter, Bill Bachenberg and Buzz Mills were on the board for several years and voted unanimously to support WLP. When WLP resigned Porter was one of the first to get to the microphone to sing praises about Wayne and what he had done to help the NRA. The Cabal is leading the NRA now.

    1. I have to disagree that these gentleman are “the cabal”. All three played a major role in the 2024 Board meeting where the reformers wrested the EVP and the two VP slots away from the Old Guard.

Going forward, Bill Bachenberg has worked hard on openness and transparency. He has spent a lot of time answering each and every email he has received. Those emails came because he asked members to reach out.

Buzz Mills headed the Nominating Committee this year and only those committed to reform made the cut. He organized the ElectANewNRA campagign last year as well as this year.

Finally, Jim Porter is using the Legal Affairs Committee to help clean up the mess left behind by Wayne, Cotton, and the rest of the Old Guard. He was savaged by Brewer, immensely hurt when so-called friends sided with Brewer, and has a long memory.
