GRPC 2011 Draft Agenda Released

The Second Amendment Foundation has released their draft agenda for the 2011 Gun Rights Policy Conference.

There will be a lot of notable speakers at this year’s conference including Adam Winkler of UCLA, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal, and Sandy Froman, the former President of the NRA.

Gun bloggers and podcasters will be well represented. Kenn Blanchard of The Black Man with a Gun podcast, David Hardy of the Of Arms and the Law blog, David Codrea of the National Gun Rights Examiner, Dave Workman of the Seattle Gun Rights Examiner, and David Kopel of the Volokh Conspiracy will all be part of various panels in Chicago.

Topics of note will include Supreme Court History, Media Bias, Personal Defense and the Legal System, Operation Fast and Furious, and What ATF and Government Regulations Mean to Gunowners.

Of course, the longest panel discussion will be reserved for Second Amendment litigation. This panel will feature Alan Gura, Donald Kilmer of the Nordyke case, David Jensen, and David Sigale.

I am definitely looking forward to this conference. I will try to blog throughout the conference in an attempt to share some real time information.

Two Weeks Until The Gun Rights Policy Conference!

The 2011 Gun Rights Policy Conference is just two weeks away! It is hard to believe it is almost here. I’ve had my plane tickets and hotel reservations for months now and I’m ready to go.

The Illinois State Rifle Association will also be holding its annual meeting in conjunction with the conference. The conference will be held in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont which is near Chicago O’Hare Airport. In other words, in the belly of the beast!

If any of my readers are planning to attend, let me know either in the comments or by e-mail (jpr9954@gmail.com) as I would love to meet you there. Of course, for those that can’t attend, I will be blogging about the event and the speakers throughout the conference.

The release below from the Second Amendment Foundation has some updates on the speakers at the conference.

The 26th Annual Gun Rights Policy Conference attracts over 700 leaders from across the country, including speakers Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms; Joseph Tartaro, president of the Second Amendment Foundation; Sandy Froman, former president of the National Rifle Association Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association and many others.

Also scheduled to speak: Attorney Alan Gura, winner of the landmark Second Amendment Heller, McDonald and Ezell cases; John Fund, Wall Street Journal and Fox News contributor; Larry Pratt, executive director, Gun Owners of America; Hawaii State Sen. Sam Slom, and gun rights leaders from New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Virginia, as well as international activists from Canada and Italy.

The Gun Rights Policy Conference offers an opportunity for grassroots gun rights activists from across the country to gather under one roof for the opportunity to network, exchange strategies and hear from national gun rights leaders on major issues relating to firearms litigation and politics.

This year’s agenda includes panel discussions on, Gun rights litigation, the UN threat to gun rights, Federal and State legislative updates, Media Bias, Self-Defense and Right-to-Carry, Open Carry and Guns and the “Fast and Furious” Obama Administration fiasco.

If you don’t know, the conference is FREE. You will come home with a stack of books and other gun rights material that is at least a foot tall plus a wealth of knowledge that you won’t get anywhere else. The only requirement is that you register for the conference. You can pre-register by going to this link.

2011 Gun Rights Policy Conference

Pre-registration for the 2011 Gun Rights Policy Conference put on by the Second Amendment Foundation is now open. The conference will be held September 23-25 in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency Airport hotel. You can go here to pre-register.

The Second Amendment Foundation puts on this conference annually and it is free. Let me repeat that – the cost to attend is free – and you come home with literally a pile of Second Amendment books, journals, and other resources.

Past GRPCs have outlined victory plans and made public the latest firearms trends. They allow you a first-hand chance to hear movement leaders–and make your voice heard.

This year we’ll take a look at critical issues such as: city gun bans, youth violence, “smart” guns, concealed carry, federal legislation, legal actions, gun show regulation, state and local activity. We’ll also preview the upcoming court cases and revisit the U.S. Supreme Court Heller Decision.

The full roster of GRPC 2011 speakers has not yet been set. Past speakers include: Alan M. Gottlieb, Joseph P. Tartaro, U.S. Representatives Ron Paul, Chris Cannon, Bob Barr & Jean Schmidt, Robert Levy, Esq. & Alan Gura, Esq., counsel for the Heller case, Wayne LaPierre, John Lott, G. Gordon Liddy, Michael Reagan, Larry Elder, Ken Hamblin, and many others.

Alan Gottlieb enjoys bringing the conference to the belly of the beast so to speak. Last year’s conference was in San Francisco which I had the pleasure to attend. You can see my reports on it here, here, and here.

In San Francisco, the local MTA had a policy prohibiting the showing of firearms in ads on their buses and bus stop enclosures. The SAF took this as a challenge and put up posters announcing the conference which featured an Oleg Volk photo with a woman and a shotgun. Frankly, I can’t wait to see what they do this year!

So if you live in the region or if you can get a plane ticket for a reasonable price, I’d certainly encourage you to attend. I met a lot of great people at the 2010 GRPC and I really hope to get back to the one in Chicago. I understand that a whole contingent will be coming from the Gun Rights Radio Network and that the plaintiffs in McDonald v. Chicago will be honored at this event.
