A Couple Of More Black Friday Items

I love my Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic shooting muffs. I did a post last year on them at a reduced price and they are again being sold at a good discount. They are $3 more at $34.98 than last year but still a good deal when compared to Walmart, Bass Pro Shop, etc. I paid $49 for my original pair and they are still going strong. All I’ve had to do is change the batteries.

I upgraded them with gel pads like these. They are going for $13.43 which is a little cheaper than last year. They were easy to install and really made the muffs more comfortable while wearing eye protection. If you already have the Howard Leight Impact Sports, I would really encourage upgrading them using these gel pads.

As I have noted earlier, I am an Amazon Affiliate and I will make a small commission if you purchase them from the links above.

Infographic – Suppressors And Hearing Protection

Brownells, Inc. has posted an excellent infographic on their Facebook page. It shows things like the decibel level of a gun shot, the average decibel reduction by use of a suppressor, and the impact on hearing of shooting with only a suppressor. Given the nonsensical approach taken by media like the New York Times editorial page and the lies from anti-gun groups like American for Responsible Solutions, this is instructive.

While wearing hearing protection such as ear muffs and ear plugs is essential, the combination of a suppressor plus muffs or ear plugs is even better.

This goes to illustrate when the Hearing Protection Act is not an effort to spur sales for the gun industry but an effort to both reduce noise pollution and to promote public health. While the passage of the Hearing Protection Act would spur sales that is merely incidental in my opinion. As I wrote earlier this year, can you imagine waiting 272 days for government approval to use a product that improves health and safety? Could you imagine the fine OSHA would levy a business if it waited that long?

Protect Your Hearing At A Reasonable Price

The Howard Leight electronic shooting muffs are an Amazon “Deal of the Day” for Monday. The price is $26.99. I have a pair and checking my receipt I paid $49.40 at Amazon. These are good muffs and slim enough that you can still get a good cheek weld.

If you order them through my Amazon affiliate link, all commissions I earn are donated to Second Amendment 503c3 organizations such as the Second Amendment Foundation and the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund.

I like having electronic muffs as they allow me to be more aware of range commands as well as my surroundings while all the while protecting my hearing. I already suffer from tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and I don’t want it to get any worse.

The “Big Money” Behind Silencers?

Chicago’s ABC 7 I-Team is going to let us know tonight about the “big money” who is behind a move to legalize suppressors in the state of Illinois.

Big money? Bwa-hah-hah. The suppressor industry – with perhaps the exceptions of Remington Outdoors and SigSauer – is made up of a number of small businesses. Some are mom and pop operations while others may have 2-300 employees.

Silencers are a safety item. They do not totally cut out the sound; they merely muffle it to a safer decibel level. Anyone who says differently is just restating myth and legend.

I just had my annual hearing checkup on Monday. I shot some in my younger days without hearing protection, attended some auto and boat races with no hearing protection, and, of course, a few rock concerts. I now suffer constant tinnitis (ringing in the ears) and some hearing loss.

About the only “big money” who would benefit from keeping suppressors banned are the hearing aid manufacturers and I doubt even they would want to build business that way.

Bionic Ear For Soldiers … And Hunters And Shooters

Etymotic Electronics’ Blast Plug enhances low sounds and attenuates the high decibel sounds that can harm hearing. The report above is from the Consumer Electronics Show currently in progress in Las Vegas. The only downside I can see to the Blast Plug is the price. $450-499 depending upon the model is pricey. I can wear my Peltor Tactical 6S muffs and get much the same effect.
