Wounded Warrior Training Classes In Ohio

This comes under the good news category. Tactical Defense Institute of West Union, Ohio is teaming up with SRT Prosthetics to offer a firearms training class for those who have lost a limb in combat. They will also be opening it to civilians for the first time. The next class is scheduled for next May. Below is a YouTube video report on their first class.

I grew up watching the Six Million Dollar Man and it was considered futuristic then. The bionic prostheses that these brave men and women have are incredible. As one guy said, his uninjured leg gets tired before his leg with the prosthesis.

You may also be familiar with John Benner and Tactical Defense Institute from their collaboration with KaBar Knives to produce the TDI Law Enforcement Knife.

Get Your Eyes On Target Faster

The NSSF has been putting out a lot of instructional videos lately. One of the latest is how to get your eyes on target faster when wingshooting. After seeing the video the thought came to me that the techniques as well as the mechanics of how the eye works would apply for more than wingshooting. If the target – or bad guy – is moving, how the eye acquires the target is going to be the same whether you are using a shotgun, an AR-15, or a Glock.

That reminds me, I need to install the TacStar Side-Saddle I bought on my Remington 870. It does no good sitting in the box!

Great Project in Arizona

As you should know by now, Arizona has constitutional carry. You can carry a handgun openly or discretely without a license. There is no training requirement, no license, and no fee or tax that has to be paid. Some who put on the formerly required concealed carry permit class were upset at this and tried to rally opposition to it. They based their opposition to it on the need for training.

We all need training. That should be a given. The Arizona Citizens Defense League has stepped in with a great project to provide this training. They call it TrainMeAz.com.

Interested parties from around the state joined forces to promote gun-safety training, the shooting sports, self-defense awareness and exercise of the fundamental constitutional right of the people, to keep and bear arms for all lawful purposes. The goal is to advance marksmanship, safe gun handling, and a deep appreciation of the valuable role firearms play in a peaceful society, on a statewide scale.

They maintain a list of all the gun trainers and training classes in Arizona, a list of ranges and other places to shoot, gun shows, and information for people traveling to Arizona.

To publicize their efforts they have, in addition to the website, a series of billboards publicizing the project.

They also have a special billboard on the border with California welcoming visitors from that state.

Personal Security versus Personal Defense

Dave Spaulding is a well-known law enforcement and firearms trainer. Indeed, he was named the 2010 Law Officer Trainer of the Year. He was a police officer in Ohio for 30 years as well as a Federal Security contractor.

He gave a presentation on personal security and developing the combative mindset at the NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte. Spaulding said he doesn’t call it personal defense because “defense is kind of like losing slowly.” Rather the aim of the combative mindset is to keep you from being the victim of criminals.

Watch these three part videos of Dave’s presentation and learn. Indeed, have your family watch the videos so they can learn how to protect themselves by avoiding trouble.
