Now I realize that the .32 ACP FN 1900 is not exactly a “big stick” but TR did have the Winchester 1895 in .405 if a “big stick” was needed.
I visited the TR National Park. The Visitor Center had the usual signs prohibiting weapons but when you got inside all but one picture of TR had him with a gun. That one was his inaugural picture where he was probably carrying concealed, perhaps the gun in your post. Note that Elanor Roosevelt was his niece and she always carried too. FDR tried to get her to accept Secret Service protection but she refused because “Some of my friends don’t like policemen”. The compromise was that she would get training and carry to protect herself. She even brandished once but that was at probable KKK so it’s all cool.
