Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors Adds A New Member

Rochester, New York Mayor Lovely Warren was indicted today on two felony counts of campaign fraud. The charges were announced by Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. Warren is a member of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

From the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle:

The first charge is for first-degree scheme to defraud; the second is an election law offense for illegally coordinating activities and expenditures.

The grand jury indictment is connected to Warren’s 2017 mayoral re-election campaign. Warren has adamantly refused any wrongdoing in the matter.

Warren and two campaign associates also indicted Friday will be arraigned at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in front of Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone in Monroe County.

If convicted of the felony charges, Warren would be removed from office under state law. The maximum sentence would be 16 months to four years in prison, but Warren would be unlikely to be incarcerated. Her pension could be forfeited, however, if the matter is determined to be a crime related to public office, and she also could lose her law license.

Albert Jones, her campaign treasurer, and Rosalind Brooks-Harris, treasurer of her PAC and the city’s finance director, were also indicted.

Warren is claiming any transfers between her campaign and her political action committee that broke the law were “unintentional errors”. However, according to former lobbyist Robert Scott Gaddy, he and a campaign finance lawyer alerted her to the illegality issue and she “intentionally disregarded the advice.”

I’ve lost count of the number of mayors who belong to Bloomberg’s group that have been indicted. I’m sure the tally is high enough to make even the most jaded politician blush.

Below is DA Doorley’s press conference announcing the charges:

Another Illegal Mayor

Michael Bloomberg and his Mayors Against Illegal Guns can sure pick them. The newest member of his slate of illegal mayors is Jasiel Correia II of Fall River, Massachusetts.

The good mayor and his chief of staff Genoveva Andrade were just arrested on Federal charges. The indictments include bribery, extortion conspiracy, extortion and aiding and abetting, wire fraud, and filing false tax returns

From Business Insider:

The 27-year old mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, was arrested Friday morning and charged with a slew of crimes, including extorting legal marijuana businesses for hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, federal prosecutors said.

Jasiel F. Correia II, the mayor, was arrested along with his former chief of staff, Genoveva Andrade. Beyond the bribes, Correia has been accused of extorting a building owner for cash and a Rolex watch in exchange for activating the water supply to a commercial building, and demanding that his chief of staff give him half of her salary in return for appointing her and allowing her to keep her city job, according to prosecutors.

Correia would get anywhere from $100,000 to $250,000 in bribes to issue “non-opposition letters”. These letters are a Massachusetts requirement that marijuana businesses are required obtain from the local head of government. Without these “non-opposition letters”, they could not open for business. Correia has issued 14 of these letters.

As I’ve said many a time in the past, this organization should be renamed Mayor Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors given their criminal activities.

Another Illegal Mayor Pleads Guilty And Resigns

David Codrea reports that yet another of Mayor Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors has resigned after pleading guilty. This time it was Patterson, NJ Mayor Jose (Joey) Torres who plead guilty to criminal conspiracy for using city workers to perform work on city time at a warehouse owned by his family.

However, former Mayor Torres was not just any old member of MAIG. As David reports, Joey Torres was one that got special recognition.

When he was mayor of New York City, Bloomberg actually called Torres out for special recognition in a “State of the City” address:

“Today, we’re joined by the mayor of Paterson, Jose (Joey) Torres. Mayor Torres, New York City offers its deepest condolences to you and your city. And we’ll also join you in working to bring sanity to gun policy in our nation. Next week, more than 50 mayors from across the country — who are part of our coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns — will gather in Washington, D.C., to take up this challenge.

“And I’m happy to say that Mayor Torres will be with us. Our goal will be getting Congress to overturn a wrong-headed law — one that blocks access at the local level to federal data that would let us hold gun dealers accountable for illegally selling to gun traffickers. Mayor Torres and I have a simple message for Congress: It’s time to take ideology out of crime-fighting and time to give mayors — the people who are responsible for policing our streets — the tools we need to protect our citizens.”

In other words, not content to disregard the Bill of Rights in their own ruined corners of the Republic, they’re intent on imposing their edicts everywhere, in Everytown, bending everyone to their will. And as for that “wrong-headed law” Bloomberg and Torres sought to overturn? If they do, they’re likely to screw things up and get people killed:

“Both BATFE and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) oppose release of trace data. In fact, BATFE has fought for years in the federal courts to keep trace records confidential, because they contain information (such as names of gun buyers) that could jeopardize ongoing investigations—not to mention law enforcement officers’ lives.”

The “wrong-head law” was the Tiahrt Amendment which put limits on the release of BATFE firearm traces.

When you think about it there are a couple of reasons as to why these mayors are so anti-gun. First, they want to do everything they can to minimize challenges to their power. Second, given their level of criminal misconduct they probably think most people are like them and shouldn’t have a gun.

Another Of Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors Bites The Dust

Mayor Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors has gained another member. Mayor Ed Murray of Seattle resigned effective as of 5 pm PDT today. He has been accused of child molestation by at least five men.

From Oregon Public Radio:

The resignation comes after a younger cousin accused him of sexual abuse in the 1970s.

The Seattle Times reports that Joseph Dyer, 54, accuses Murray of repeatedly molesting him when he was a teenager.

Dyer is the fifth man to accuse the mayor of such abuse.

Murray has repeatedly denied allegations of sexual abuse. He has said in the past that accusations from four men were part of a right-wing political agenda to take him down. According to the Times, Murray said the latest accusation is false and is likely because of a family rift.

Dyer says Murray forced him into sex while they shared a bedroom in Dyer’s childhood home, according to the Times. Dyer says he was 13 years old at the time. Murray lived with Dyer’s family in New York after his mother passed away.

Dyer has provided a signed declaration to a Seattle lawyer representing Delvonn Heckard, the man who sued Murray earlier this year for repeatedly raping him in the 1980s. The lawsuit has since been withdrawn but Heckard has filed a claim for damages against the city of Seattle.

Murray denies the claims of molestation but nonetheless has resigned. I hate to say it but you don’t publicly accuse someone of child molestation over a mere family rift. Dyer, Murray’s cousin, provided a signed declaration to the attorney representing Delvonn Heckard who had also accused Murray of molestation.

I don’t know if the statute of limitations has passed or not. However, child molestation is one of the most sordid of crimes especially when done by either a family member or someone in a position of authority. Murray was a family member of Dyer and a counselor to the other men. Resignation from his mayoral post and deciding not to run for re-election seems to me an effort on the part of Murray to hide as much of these incidents as possible.

I hope these men get the justice that they deserve. Three years ago the headline in the Seattle Times read, “Big winners: gun control and Mayor Ed Murray.” How times have changed in Seattle for at least one of these two.

Mayor Bloomberg’s Illegal Attorney General (Updated)

First there were the many mayors who were members of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns who ended up convicted of criminal activity. Now, in a step up, we have a state attorney general who owed her election, in good part, to ads on her behalf by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg being convicted of perjury, obstruction of justice, and other crimes.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Michelle Henry, who joined (Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R.) Steele in presenting the prosecution case, painted Kane as heedless of the law as she carried out her crimes.

“She knew it was wrong, she knew it was against the law, and she didn’t care,” Henry told the jury. “She did it for revenge. And after that happened, she covered it up with lies.”

In its verdict, the jury found Kane guilty of perjury in two instances: That she lied about her involvement in the leak and cover-up, and that she lied again in telling a grand jury she had not signed a secrecy oath pledging not to reveal confidential grand jury information. Prosecutors later found such an oath signed by Kane.

Kane sought revenge against former state prosecutor Frank Fina who she thought he was the source of a news story that was highly critical of how she shut down the prosecution of corrupt Democrats in Philadelphia.

In addition to the two felony counts of perjury, Kane was found guilty of the misdemeanor crimes of conspiracy, official oppression, and false swearing. Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy ordered Kane to surrender her passport and warned that she would be jailed immediately if there was any retaliation against witnesses. Kane could receive up to 28 years in prison but is expected to receive much less since she had no prior criminal record.

Prior to being elected Pennsylvania Attorney General, Kane was an assistant district attorney in the Scranton area who gained attention for criticizing how the investigation of former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky had been conducted.

Kane, who has already lost her law license, has until the day of her sentencing to resign. She so far has resisted calls by Gov. Tom Kane and other leading Democrats to step down.

With Kane’s conviction, I guess a renaming is in order. Henceforth, the organization formally known as Everytown for Gun Safety will be known as Everytown Moms Demanding Illegal Mayors and Attorneys General.

UPDATE: Kane has announced her resignation effective at the end of the day on Wednesday, August 17th. She says she has “been honored to serve the people of Pennsylvania, and I wish them health and safety in all their days.”

Kane’s mugshot when arraigned

She faces sentencing in 90 days. While she has promised to appeal, it will be very interesting to see what sentence she gets.

The cartoonist for the Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia nails it in the tweet below. Kane, the first female AG in Pennsylvania history, broke the glass ceiling…and floor.

Another One For The Road, Mayor Lowe?

Mayor Bloomberg can add another of his fine group of mayors to the Illegal Mayors file. Mayor Craig Lowe of Gainesville, Florida was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol on charges of DUI with property damage. According to reports, Mayor Lowe was found asleep behind the wheel of his wrecked Honda Civic this past Thursday. He failed the field sobriety tests administered by the FHP.

Booking Picture – Alachua County

According to the story in the Washington Free Beacon, Mayor Lowe, a Democrat, is in a run-off election on April 16th. He is due to appear in court on April 11th.

Mayor Lowe was one of 30 mayors featured in a recent MAIG video “demanding a plan”. He appears at about the 19 second mark and is given the honor of saying “Newtown” in their list of mass shootings. He looks considerably better and more polished in his dark suit and lavender tie than he does wearing a green-striped jumpsuit as in the picture above.

Illegal Mayors have a way of disappearing as if they were disgraced members of the Soviet Politburo. Instead of not being seen at the May Day parades, they disappear from the MAIG website. A screen capture of their webpage taken this morning still shows Mr. Lowe as a member in good standing of MAIG. I wonder how long that will last.

What Is It With Bloomberg And His Illegal Mayors?

Yet another member of the Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns was arrested.

From NBC NY

The FBI early this morning took Trenton, NJ Mayor Tony Mack into custody on Federal charges of conspiracy and extortion. From NBC New York:

Mack faces federal charges including conspiracy to obstruct commerce by extortion. Joseph “JoJo” Giorgianni, a top campaign contributor, and six others were also taken into custody. Information on their attorneys wasn’t immediately available. Specific charges against the suspects are expected to be outlined by Paul Fishman, the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, later Monday.

Mack and the others arrested Monday were brought to the FBI office in Hamilton for processing and are scheduled to appear in federal court.

The arrests are the latest development in an ongoing federal investigation into alleged corruption within Mack’s administration, which has been marked by accusations of nepotism and reckless spending. In July, FBI agents searched offices in Trenton City Hall a day after raiding the mayor’s home. They also searched the home of his brother, Ralpiel Mack, and that of Giorgianni.

Mack is listed as one of the New Jersey members of MAIG as seen here.

As I said in the headline, what is it with these Illegal Mayors? You have them being arrested on corruption charges, extortion, assault, and the list goes on.

UPDATE: According to Bitter, MAIG has scrubbed Mayor Tony Mack from their list of members.

Silly gun prohibitionists! The Interwebs never forget. And besides, David Codrea put up a screen shot of the MAIG website and Mayor Mack when he posted on this earlier this morning on his WarOnGuns blog.

Another Illegal Mayor

What is it with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his Mayors Against Illegal Guns? Yet another one of his coterie of gun hating mayors has had to step down due to an arrest.

Mug shot from Broward Sheriffs Office

According to the Miami Herald,Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco of Tamarac, Florida was arrested on March 9th on bribery and other corruption charges. With her arrest, she was suspended from office.

Prosecutors charged Flansbaum-Talabisco, 57, for allegedly selling her vote to developers who contributed $21,000 through a political action committee to smear her opponents and support her 2006 mayoral campaign.

She was replaced on the Tamarac City Commission today by Marion Swenson, the former City Clerk.

Mayor Talabisco joined Bloomberg’s group in early 2007 according to their press release. With her arrest, she is now eligible to join the rest of the other Illegal Mayors featured on the Gun Owners Against Illegal Mayors webpage.
