Wayne LaPierre At The SHOT Show

One of the things he said that caught my ear was the statement that this year could break the back of the Second Amendment if we don’t work to save it. While a bit of hyperbole, I do agree that this is a critical election year. Whoever is elected President will probably get to nominate at least one Supreme Court justice. With both Heller and McDonald as 5 to 4 decisions, this is a frightening thought.

  1. That comment, and that comment alone, is why I will vote early and often for anyone but Obama.

The right side of the aisle, as it is, must come together to elect ONE person to make Obama a one term President.

We can not have our ranks broken. We need the Paul supporters to join in on who ever the candidate is that is chosen. The importance of civilized liberty is at stake.

  2. Sorry, I just don't buy it. A "right" which currently depends on the vote of a single notoriously fickle man (Justice Kennedy) or future appointed justices is no right at all.

This is also assuming that when it comes down to specifics we're going to get rulings that actually make a difference on the ground. So far not much of that has happened; if Miller II is denied cert I'm counting this experiment as over for the time being.

And if a new makeup results in a quick reversal of Heller and Miller the only thing it will harm is the prestige of and respect for the Supreme Court, which would not be an entirely bad thing. It would most certainly energize us politically, which is an area I'll note we are enjoying overwhelming victories.
