Mitt said it right in a tweet earlier this evening – “the government belongs to us”. It is as another Republican, President Abraham Lincoln, said in the Gettysburg Address, we are a nation conceived in liberty and with a “government of the people, by the people, for the people”.
Wonder what mental midget thought that one up? Foot in mouth seems to be a trademark of the DEMs this election cycle.
I think what they were trying to say is that everyone has an interest in the government. When they said "belong," they probably meant it in the same sense that one "belongs" to a club or a family. It was a poor choice of words though.
