Manchin-Toomey Fails

I just watched the vote on the S. Amdt 715 aka the Manchin-Toomey substitute amendment on C-Span. It needed 60 votes to pass.

It lost! And to be honest, we won.

The vote count was 54 aye to 46 nay.

I will post the roll call as soon as it is available. Of note was that Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) made it to the Senate to vote. Of course he voted for it.

UPDATE: Here is the roll call. Any red-state Democrat who voted for it and says they believe in the Second Amendment is lying to you.  Senators like McCain, Collins, Toomey, and King are just beyond the pale.

  1. "Only four Republican senators committed to voting for the amendment ahead of time. The last was Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who announced his support Wednesday afternoon. The other three were Toomey, Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine."

As an Arizona resident, I am disgusted at McCain's vote. What a treacherous snake. He'll never see another victory in this state, and I suspect he doesn't care. No one even answered the phone in his office for the past few days. Screw you, Johnny.

    1. From what I understand, by voting against the amendment under Senate rules, Reid can bring it back up in later debates.

  2. McCain is a grumpy old man "GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAMN KIDS!!!" – he is done and he knows it. As for Reid, well, he was for before he was against it. I am sure he switched his vote before the roll closed so the record would reflect his gun rights bona fides come next election. NRA needs to re-score him to a "C-". Collins and other RINO's – thanks for making it clear where you stand. See you at the ballot box.
