Analogy Of The Day

I started hearing rumors as soon as Wayne LaPierre resigned that current NRA President Charles Cotton was jockeying for the position of CEO and Executive Vice President. Personally, I think this would be a travesty and would mark the death knell of the NRA. One merely needs to remember that Mr. Cotton served and continues to serve as head of the Audit Committee for many years while the grifters grifted.

The best analogy on the move by Mr. Cotton to win the EVP position was by my friend Ron Carter who said:

Cotton is clearly the Nikita Khrushchev seeking to seize the opportunity on the death of Stalin….I use the Soviet reference because it sure resembles it. All the yes-men will keep saying yes to the strongest posture regardless of any other criteria.

  1. John: I think you are absolutely correct that if Charles Cotton became EVP/CEO of the NRA, then the NRA will continue to decline at a rapid rate. NRA members will continue to flee the NRA because the corrupt officers and Board members are still in place. The only change that will occur is Wayne LaPierre’s resignation becomes effective at the end of this month. I think the only hope for the NRA is if the Court appoints a “Monitor” to oversee the NRA and remove those that were involved with the corruption. It does seem odd that we are relying on a New York court to fix the NRA, but there is no other way forward. The NRA Board of Directors are inherently incompetent and complicit with the corruption, embezzlement, fraud, ect… that has been revealed in the records, trials and now audio tapes. Rocky Marshall

    1. I will add that any monitor will have to be an advocate for the mission of the NRA and with successful experience in running a large complex organization. I don’t have much confidence in a NY court meeting either of these criteria but we shall see. Cotton fails the test on the “successful” criteria.
