Actually it is called scanning. The command at a range during training is "scan and reholster."
I think left/right scanning like what is shown in the video is good for people getting used to defensive pistol shooting. If you have significant training, I think 360 degree assessment using sul is far more effective.
If you scan like shown in the video, you're already behind the 8 ball if you DO see a threat behind you since you're gun is pointing in the opposite direction and you have to turn around to be able to counter the threat.
