Do You Know Who I Am?

I got a piece of mail yesterday from the NRA that greatly amused me. It said it was from the “Honors Committee” of the NRA. I was nominated get the “National Patriot’s Medal” and to be a member of the “NRA Golden Eagles.”

Don’t they know I’m one of those dissident Life Members who is royally disgusted with Wayne and the majority of the Board of Directors? That I signed the ballot petition for their arch-nemesis Frank Tait? That I’ve been a critic of the NRA’s leadership and its direction for the last two years? That 1st VP Willes Lee has labeled me a “hater”?

I guess for the low, low payment of only $250 annually or a quarterly payment of $62.50 required to be a NRA Golden Eagle that all is forgiven.

My $250 would get me a special decal for my car, a NRA Golden Eagle ball cap (probably made in China), and the knowledge that I, too, could help pay the legal fees of Brewer, Attorneys and Counselors.

As the great Groucho Marx said in one form or another, “I don’t want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.” There are some I for which I’d make exceptions but this isn’t one of them.

  1. They must be getting desperate in order to eat the expenses of putting their known boycotters on the potential donor list.

I got a survey from ILA the other day – an actual activist survey, not a fake fundraising survey. I told them that to re-engage me as a volunteer they could fire Wayne and start getting themselves back together from the failure they’ve become with member and club services. Somehow I doubt they’ll take such feedback seriously.

It would be kind of funny to make a check-sized note that is almost/sorta laid out like one that says something like “Donations will Resume when Wayne LaPierre is Fired.” And to mail it in with every single fundraiser that has postage-paid return envelopes.

    1. I got that same survey from ILA. I put in comments similar to yours at the end when they allowed open-ended responses.

I like the check-sized note idea!

  2. Thanks for this post, now I know what that was because all mail from the NRA goes straight from my mailbox to the trash.

After the Florida school shooting and the appearance of little David “Camera” Hogg, I started a life membership on a payment plan. When all the allegations of financial misdeeds came out, I shut off the money spigot and have ignored all phone calls and correspondence from them. Until WLP is gone, no money and no activity.

  3. They have apparently shut off magazine, but sent my wife’s.
And I suspect they deleted membership as well. She got a new card. I did not.
I have been the one posting their fundraising mail back to them at their expense, with Fire WLP or No Money written prominently all over.
I… honestly cannot be bothered to even call and ask where my 2022 card and magazine are. Until WLP and his entire cabal of yes-men are gone, I’m not really interested in being associated with the organization any longer; I just cant be bothered to cancel, as my Life Membership is paid for a long time ago.
